  7. One of the most popular segments of the Beavis and Butthead show were the music video critiques. According to Wikipedia, "Mike Judge improvised the video comments, and they were never scripted. Almost all the animations of Beavis and Butt-Head during the videos were re-used from earlier episodes....When confronted with a song/video they didn't like, they usually watched it anyway, commenting on how bad it was. However, if they couldn't stand it, their solution was to change the channel... At times, the criticism reflected their young age and ignorance of music history.... They showed a particular disdain for many generic 1980s hair bands... They had no tolerance for new wave or electronic music... Beavis and Butt-head rarely expressed complete enjoyment about any video; but a few bands did draw more favorable attention from the two than others. Their preference was heavy metal but they also liked funk, rock and rap. - Wikipedia The following are the best segments I could find...
  8. With 80% of the precincts reporting, The New York Times says that "Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton won the New Hampshire Democratic primary in a surprising show of strength after losing the Iowa caucuses to Senator Barack Obama last week. Senator John McCain prevailed meanwhile on the Republican side, breathing life into a campaign that had been given up for dead just months ago and scrambling a race that now has no clear front-runner." 12. The Silicon Alley Insider reports that Universal is pulling all its music off of ILike, one of the most popular music applications on Facebook. Ilike allows users to play 30-second song snippets of their favorite songs. The Insider suggests that "part of the problem lies with the agreements both companies have had with Muze, a middleman which powers the "sampling" feature on a host of web sites. UMG had licensed its music through Muze, which in turn subbed the rights to iLike; now UMG's deal with Muze has expired, and the music label and iLike are trying to hammer out a direct deal. Update: Muze marketing VP Lee Ho tells us that his company still has a deal to provide samples for UMG, which makes things slightly fuzzier." It appears to me, and to Silicon Alley's insider, that this is all about money, and how much Universal can fleece off of ILike. Who wants to listen to 30 second snippets anyway? 13. The Australian Herald Sun recently interviewed the legendary songwriter and Beach Boy, who is appearing at the 2008 Sydney Festival: "The most proud thing I ever did was California Girls. It was my best record, it was my best achievement . . . and I always tell reporters, that was the best thing we ever did. "I'm still writing, I'm trying to get a couple of songs out now, they're in the works. I'm just developing some new songs." Read More
  14. Actually the layout is simpler. If you go to the front page, the new news topics are categorized, so you can access the articles that way. If you go to the top bar, you can access various sections, the home page, downloads, forums, etc, via the drop down bars. Forums is probably what you want to access--simply click it, and it will open up as before... That make sense?
  15. Napster is evolving once again. "Napster, the brand that dragged the entire world kicking and screaming into the digital music revolution and then became a casualty of RIAA litigation, will soon be returning to its roots in the DRM-free music world," according to a report today in Ars Technica. Napster's new subscription service will sell unprotected copies of its entire catalog in April of this year. Read More
  16. The UK Reports that the online radio service Pandora will close its UK operation beginning January 15th. Pandora founder Tim Westergren notes: "After over a year of trying, this has proved impossible. Both the PPL (which represents the record labels) and the MCPS/PRS Alliance (which represents music publishers) have demanded per track performance minima rates which are far too high to allow ad supported radio to operate and so, hugely disappointing and depressing to us as it is, we have to block the last territory outside of the US. 17. The Washington Post has corrected itself: "A Dec. 30 Style & Arts column incorrectly said that the recording industry "maintains that it is illegal for someone who has legally purchased a CD to transfer that music into his computer." In a copyright-infringement lawsuit, the industry's lawyer argued that the actions of an Arizona man, the defendant, were illegal because the songs were located in a "shared folder" on his computer for distribution on a peer-to-peer network." 18. Starpulse reorts that American Idolers Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard have been dropped by record label J Records. 19. Moby (ft. Aynzil and the 419 Crew) - "Alice" "The left-wing Christian born Richard Hall returns this March with Last Night, his first album of new material since 2005's Hotel.... This returns him to the semi-anonymity of a 1990s electronica star. Guest rappers Aynzil and the 419 Crew hog the spotlight while synthesized strings, reversed drum sounds, electric guitar, and the kind of propulsive bassline that gave Play's "Bodyrock" its title make it clear this is still Moby..."
