1. Digital Society Interview Ashley Wallbridge ahead of The DS International Volume 3 Launch Party - Friday 13th August @ The Mint Club, Leeds Hey Ash, hope your well? - 2010 has been a stunning year for you on the DJ front, any particular gig highlights that stand out in your mind? Thanks, Its been a pretty hectic year for gigs, A lot of different experience. Two which stand out from the rest are ASOT 450 ( Bratislava ) & Sunrise festival ( Poland ) Both of these were amazing in different ways. The people, crowd & atmosphere was unforgettable... Sounds like it's been hectic! What about the production front, again a steller 12 months - Can we expect any new tracks/remixes on the horizon? On the production front iv never been so busy, I have my artist album in the works at the moment which im putting the finishing touches on, Four new singles and two new big collaborations. Looks like a lot of coffee and no sleep is in order ;) You have of course just mixed 'DS International Vol 3' - Have you mixed a compliation album before? Has does the mix compare to your live DJ sets? Mixing a CD is very much similar to playing at a DJ set, You have to choose the tracks wisely and keep the energy going. This was actually my first mix compilation, So its a special one for me.. The mix is the kind of sound i play out live, Although depending on the venue, capacity etc etc, Things can always change ;) You made your 1st appearance for Digital Society in February at the massive O2 Academy, whats your thoughts on the brand and its impact in the UK? Digital Society is huge! The brand, organisation and what its doing for the UK scene is fantastic. It may be the breath of fresh air what we have been looking for... And finally, looking forward to the launch party, what can the people of Leeds expect from you at the much hyped Mint Club? A lot of Energy, Drive and new tracks haha Thanks ash, look forward to seeing on friday the 13th! http://www.digitalsociety.co.uk http://www.ashleywallbridge.com DS International Volume 3 Mixed by Ashley Wallbridge & Activa is now available to Purchase : HERE Tickets for The DS International Volume 3 Album Launch Party @ The Mint Club Leeds, Friday 13th August are Available from these outlets : Buy Tickets from Ticketweb Buy Tickets from Skiddle

 3. Digital Society Catches up with Activa ahead of his set at the DS International Volume 3 Album Launch Party on Friday 13th August @ The Mint Club, Leeds Hey Rob, hows it going? – Its been a busy 12 months on the DJ Front from what we hear – any standout performances? whats coming up? Definitely, its been really busy. The main standout gig for me was the Vandit Night in Berlin last December. Just me and Paul van Dyk on the lineup which was a bit nerve racking with Paul playing before and after my set. It was an amazing night though and one ill remember for a long long time. Tomorrowlands in Belgium was amazing too. Great weather and a great crowd. I have some really good gigs coming up too which I am very excited about. 1015 in San Francisco is definitely one that I cant wait for. I am also travelling to Italy for a night called Art of Trance which should be great. Sounds like a busy year ahead! Last years 'This World', your debut artist album is still high in demand - did the success of the album surprise you? I was hoping that people would see and hear the effort that I put into the album. I wasn’t expecting anything in terms of a reaction in particular, having said that, I knew that it was (at the time) the best work I had done and was just hoping that it would be well received. It was more of a relief than a surprise when people’s feedback came in as I was always thinking about what people would think about it and whether they would understand why the album was put together the way it was. 2010 has seen you launch ‘Borderline Music’ and you have had some great releases lined up. can we look forward to any more upcoming Activa production material in the near future on the label? I will be doing various work on the label from original tracks under Substate and Activa as well as remixes and special reworks. I am wanting the label to stand out from other digital labels in not only the style of music it will be releasing but the quality as well. I have some amazing producers on boards like Sonic Element and Impulsive Drive, both relatively new, but both with music that, for me, is unique while keeping the quality and style of the label how I want it. I am also working with the likes of Marcos and JK Walker, two producers that I rate very highly and are up for working with Borderline. This summer you have mixed 'DS International Volume 3'. your association with digital society is well known with your long standing residency, how does it feel to mix the forthcoming ds album release? Its fantastic. Ever since the first DS International was released I wanted to mix a CD and now that I have had my chance and the mix is done, I think it will stand up against the other CD’s. There are some great new tracks on there as well as an old favourite and some recent quality releases. It should have a good mix of known and unknown music and will hopefully flow nicely! Finally (thinking back to Live As in 2008 any words of wisedom for the DS faithful ahead of the album launch party? :) It should be a really cool night with a high quality of music. DS nights always flow in terms of the music and the album launch will be no exception. It will be a great chance for DS fans to see me play an unrestricted peak time set which a lot of the time, they don’t get to see because I tend to play late. Im really looking forward to it. It’ll be better than Live As I reckon! Cheers Rob, looking forward to another cracking night Cheers, me too! Activa Activa (Production maestro Rob Stevenson) is a man on fire. Labeled by Paul van Dyk as his producer of the year, Activa productions have appeared on Spinnin, Discover, High Contrast and of course the mighty Vandit Records - which has seen Activa tracks & remixes feature in sets from the biggest names in the industry. 2009 saw the tech-trance titan complete his first and highly acclaimed artist album 'This World', and has worked with the likes of Giuseppe Ottaviani, John Askew & Jon O'Bir in recent times. Coupled with new projects on Anjunabeats (under the Solar Movement alias), and with Dave Parkinson under his Revalution 9 guise on Activa's very own brand new, independantly run label, Borderline Music - a label which is set to take the Trance scene by storm. Alongside tour dates in Europe, Asia, and the US throughout the calender year, Rob's renowned UK residency with Digital Society is held in the highest regard. 8. This week we caught up with Perceptive Nature who are making there debut in the main room at DS Invitation. Luke & Nick, who also run uplifting trance label Perceptive, have included an exclusive Perceptive Recordings mix for free download. Be sure to check it out! Hi Guys! To start with, are you looking forward to your set at Invitation and what can people expect to hear from you? Yeah we’re thrilled to be playing the main room on our first trip to DS as we’ve heard nothing but good things about the crowd, the atmosphere and the promoters (obviously ;). We’ll be played a bit of everything that trance and progressive offers really. Anyone who's heard just a handful of releases on the Perceptive imprints should know what to expect. We always try to construct our sets in an orderly fashion whilst constantly monitoring and responding to the crowd. Being part of a label, it's always great to hear the tracks we're signed being well received and we've got a few in our wallet that we're sure will go down a treat on the night! Tell us more about Perceptive Recordings? Is a label something you have always wanted to run? We'd been toying with the idea of starting a label for a while as Nick was working at Chemical Records at the time Brisky launched Monster Tunes. In the summer of 2007 we received a couple of demos (Nyctalopia / Time To Rest) from a certain Slovenian producer (Andy Blueman) via a close friend and were blown away by them. We couldn't understand why none of the labels out there wanted to sign them so we decided to start the label, not only for these tracks but to release a similar style and quality of music. We couldn't have hoped for a better start than Nyctalopia which was so well received, it justified our decision and has since then driven us onwards. We're sure there are a lot of people out there who are thankful we introduced Andy Blueman to the trance scene. The label has been a massive success and definitely has its own particular style. How did the concept with Perceptive Deep come about and what does offer? Once the label had gathered some steam, the demos we received seemed to rapidly increase by the day and we began to see a handful of quality progressive tracks which sounded really promising but didn't exactly fit the Perceptive mould. It was a real shame as they were tracks that we both liked. Notably the track 'Purple Sunset' from Joel Gershom (who is now A&R for Deep), we had this for probably 2 years before it was finally released and in that time we listened to it a countless number of times. We decided to start a progressive based label early last year but surprisingly it took almost 12 months to launch. Yet again, our debut release was a dream start as Arty's remix of Alex Pich's 'Tinctures' was supported by many top DJ's and has since gone onto be one of our most successful tracks to date. Are there any forthcoming releases we should be keeping an ear out for? Well Andy Blueman's 'Florescence' is up next which is a massive release for us and is exactly what you'd expect from him, emotional, epic and uplifting with a break to die for! Following that we've got our first full vocal release from ReOrder which we've really excited about. Ferry Tayle has just delivered the final remix on that package and we can't wait to get it out there! On the deep imprint we've got a collab from Anjunabeats' latest acquisition Dave Horne and Nu-Depth head honcho Danny Powers which includes excellent remixes from Audien and MoodFreak plus some stunning progressive mixes of ReOrder's 'Biscay Bay'. What does the future hold for yourselves and Perceptive? Have you any plans that you can shed light on? We ran a trance night in Bristol a couple of years ago and we really miss that side of things so promotion is certainly something we'd like to get back into. It can be stressful but is ultimately rewarding, even when things don't go to plan, you still get a sense of achievement. In terms of the imprints, we're happy with things as they are. We're working hard to ensure to continue to offer the highest quality uplifting trance with that trademark sound that people expect from Perceptive Recordings and the Deep imprint seems to be going from strength to strength with a whole host of great originals and remixes scheduled for release in the coming months. And finally, what tunes are you playing most at the moment? We tend to play a lot of Perceptive tracks cause to sign them obviously means we like them a great deal and therefore want to support them as much as possible. ReOrder's 'Biscay Bay' is a favourite of ours at the moment, especially the Ferry Tayle remix. Also, the Arty remix of Alex Pich 'Tinctures' (which we are still battering) and Audien's outstanding 'Palmetto' which due to be released later in the year. Outside of Perceptive we're really enjoying the output from Andy Moor and Ashley Wallbridge, particularly Andy's latest 'She Moves' and Ashley's remix of Tritonal 'Forgive Me, Forget You' Perceptive Nature DS Invitation Guest Mix Tracklist 1. 11. Before the much anticipated Digital Society Summer Event Live in Leeds, DS caught up with one of the headline acts, Leon Bolier [NL] Hey Leon, Hope your well – How has 2010 been for you so far? Its been a busy 12 months on the DJ Front from what we hear – Any standout performances? Hey there! 2010 has been all about gigs and working on my new artist album. One of the standout performances was the first time we exported our Streamlined party-concept abroad – to Hungary in fact. We will look into doing so more often, and to other countries as well, so let’s see what the future brings! Alongside the DJ’ing, the production has really gone from strength to strength recently, and you have had some great releases to date. Have you any new material in the pipeline? Definitely have! As said, I’m working on a new artist album, which is going to be a double CD once again, in the end 24 or 25 new tracks will end up there. Some of ‘em already have been released, since my track Shimamoto was the first track that has been taken from the album and has been released as a single, afterwards it was 2099 with Marcus Schössow and Dark Star with Sied van Riel – and my new solo single ‘That Morning’ is being promoted as we speak, release date for the single is June 22nd, the whole album will be out on August 31st. You have recently started your own label ‘Streamlined’ in May 2010, and the first release was 'Bolier vs Van Riel -Dark Star', how is that all going for you? And can we look forward to any more upcoming material on the label in the near future? The ‘That Morning’ release and the album release will be out on the label, and I signed a new track by Daniel Kandi as well. Apart from that I’m planning to sign more material by other artists as well. Sounds like a busy year ahead! This June you are making your 3rd appearance at Digital Society Leeds, at the O2 Academy - What your thoughts on the brands impact within the UK scene? It is nice to see that the DS nights have been growing over the time, I think I even played at the first DS event, and ever since it has been fun to come back to Leeds anyway. I think DS is a new strong player in the UK clubbing scene, given the fact that you as an organization grew, and now actually are able to expand your nights to the O2 Academy etcetera. You know I always have warm feelings for the DS crew so apart from observing the facts, I’m really happy for you guys that everything goes so well. 12. DS Interview: Bryan Kearney [UK] Before the much anticipated Digital Society Summer Event Live in Leeds, DS caught up with one of the headline acts, Bryan Kearney. Hey Bryan, Hope your well – How has 2010 been for you so far? Its been a busy 12 months on the DJ Front from what we hear – Any standout performances? Hi mate. I had a very difficult start to the year with regards to gigs but I'm glad to say that I'm through the worst of it now and I think I have the busiest diary on my agency which is a massive relief to myself and my bank account. I've just got back from Mexico where I appeared at a festival called Eurofest alongside Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson, Roger Shah and Manuel Le Saux. It was an incredible experience and I can't wait to go back. I have gigs in Sweden, U.S.A, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England all coming up over the next four weeks so will be getting plenty of travelling done. Other stand out gigs over the past year include Sunrise Festival in Poland, Inside Out at The Arches, Passion at The Emporium and also my three date tour of Argentina last August. I've had some amazing experiences and I hope they are just a sign of things to come. Alongside the DJ’ing, the production has really gone from strength to strength recently, and you have had some great releases to date. Have you any new material in the pipeline? Personally I think this has been my strongest production year to date and I am very happy with my output from the studio. I have just signed a big room trancer called "Goosebumps" to John O'Callaghan's Subculture label which will hopefully be heard all summer in Ibiza. I also have a vocal track forthcoming on Garuda which is something completely different from myself but at the same time I never want to be pigeonholed as a DJ/producer of just one style and want to continuously show my versatility both in the studio and in the clubs. I am also just about to launch my own label KEARNAGE Recordings which will cater for all of my side projects (slightly crazier material) and have some fantastic tracks forthcoming on that. I have so much stuff going on right across the board so there is certainly plenty of stuff forthcoming from myself. Sounds like a busy year ahead! This June you are making your 1st appearance at Digital Society Leeds, at the O2 Academy - What your thoughts on the brands impact within the UK scene? I have to say it's been an impressive and very successful story to date plus it's a night that I've wanted to perform at for a number of years. I'm delighted to get the opportunity to play there in June. The progress that the club night has made over the past few years is a huge accomplishment and conclusive evidence that when a target is set and the correct action is taken then it can be achieved and for that Digital Soceity should be commended. The club night itself has made a big impact on the UK scene. For a relatively new club night to be ranked alongside the likes of Godskitchen ,attracting massive names such as Above & Beyond and having such a loyal following is testament to this. What can the DS faithful expect from you musically at the Summer Event Live? Any message for the people of Leeds? Lots and lots of energy. I'll be finishing the night off so it's my job to keep people in the club and to also send them home with a smile on their face.I will have to find the right balance between power and pleasure. There will of course be the usual unexpected surprises that I love to dig out at the right time. Prepare to dance. Finally, any interesting / funny stories that you would like to share with the DS faithful? There are plenty of stories but I don't think many of them can be repeated ;-).... Thanks for your time Bryan, Looking forward to welcoming you to DS! Thanks mate, see you then. Catch Bryan Kearney on Friday 11th June at Digital Society, O2 Academy Leeds alongside, Lange, Simon Patterson, Sean Tyas + many more! Tickets for the DS Summer Event are available to purchase here : Buy Tickets O2 Academy Buy Tickets via Skiddle www.digitalsociety.co.uk www.o2academyleeds.co.uk www.bryankearney.com
