  4. Menno De Jong debuts at Digital Society! friday 13th February @ Myhouse nightclub, Leeds *Early bird tickets sold out* *Standard £15 tickets available now : http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user?query=sear...mp;x=7&y=13 Master of numerous music industry disciplines, Menno de Jong has already carved enough notches on the dance tree for someone twice his age. His production & remix career has seen him record for some of Europe’s biggest trance labels and he’s the owner of lauded Dutch independent Intuition Recordings. A bona-fide Podcast pioneer, he’s produced and presented the much respected and widely-syndicated Intuition Radio show for the last 3 years. As a DJ he’s closed gigs for Tiësto & Paul van Dyk, is currently ranked at No. 48 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 Chart and has spun in over 25 countries. At just 24 years old, he’s is without question the next challenger to the Dutch trance throne! Born into a musical family, it took very little time for Menno to start experimenting with the array of synths corralled in his father’s studio. His production career started in auspicious fashion in 2004 when ‘Guanxi’, his debut production was signed to Anjunabeats. The consummate music workaholic, Menno has continued to conjure one magical, melodic feat after another. Double-header ‘Magma’/‘Momentum’ and ‘Sjamaan’ were released on Fundamental (in 2005 & 2007 respectively), while ‘Tundra’ (2005) and ‘Nolthando’/ ‘Solid State’ (2007) appeared on his own Intuition label. Remix-wise, he has re-scripted tracks for The Thrillseekers, Karen Overton & Mark Otten, amongst others and to ever-increasing acclaim. As with studio production Menno also dabbled in DJing from an early age. At 17 he progressed from school discos & friends parties to a two year residency at an underground club in Eindhoven. Further charged by the reception ‘Guanxi’ received from DJs and still aged just 20 years old he threw himself into music nearly full-time, juggling his busy schedule with his studies at university. In the last three years he has successfully catapulted himself into the upper echelons of the trance DJ hierarchy. Having now spun in over 25 countries, Menno has played at clubs and events that are themselves the virtual synonyms of trance. Godskitchen, Gatecrasher, Creamfields, Trance Energy, Sensation White, Mysteryland, Amnesia Ibiza, Love Parade, Berlin, The Gaudi Arena in Moscow & WMC in Miami have all hosted his pin-point perfect tune selection and sophisticated mixing style. Alongside that he has DJed with some of the biggest names in the scene, including trail-blazers such as Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, The Prodigy, Paul van Dyk, Marco V and Markus Schulz. With his non-stop smile, energetic dancing and ever-present contact with the audience, he continues to share his passion for evocative melodies and dance-floor rocking beats. Menno’s rise through the deck-spinning ranks has been suitably reflected in DJ Magazine’s annual Top 100 poll. He debuted at 72 in 2006 before rising 10 places to 62 a year later, and a staggering 14 places to 48 in 2008. He is also ranked at No. 11 in Trance Addict’s annual top 100 Trance DJs poll. Following an inspiring tour of Africa, Menno broke into the compilation market in mid-2007. Mixing the first in a projected series of country-themed albums, Intuition Sessions Vol. 1: South Africa gathered together the cream of the label’s highly recognizable crop. De Jong was also at the leading-edge of the internet radio and podcasting phenomenon, launching his Intuition Radio show in 2005. The weekly episodes rapidly became required listening for the internet’s trance-hungry hoards, with Menno showcasing the very best in EDM. The show has now gone monthly and progressed onto the airwaves of XM Radio, Dutch national Slam FM & Worldspace with tens of thousands of listeners tuning in each week. The Intuition Podcast is also available as a download via iTunes. 10. Greg Downey returns to Digital Society alongside Sean Tyas friday 14th November after their epic performances in the summer 0f 2007! www.gregdowney.com www.myspace.com/gregdowney Greg Downey is one of the shining stars of the UK Trance scene right now. His consistent, high quality production really stands out when you hear it in a club and his skills on the decks make him a truly versatile DJ who will always deliver regardless of which slot he is allocated. John Askew Belfast-born Greg began DJing over six years ago, shortly before he decided to pack up and move to Ibiza for the summer with his records. While playing at a dingy San Antonio after-party, he was spotted by the promoter of Gatecrasher, who was so impressed he asked him to play the following week at Space. Since then, Greg has worked hard to establish himself firmly among the best young DJs in the UK. Greg developed a taste for tougher electronic dance music from a young age and this is reflected in his unique style, which combines underground and uplifting trance with elements of techno. This is all rolled into an explosive performance, which sees him using 3 CDJs, Serato Scratch Live, Pioneer DJM 800 and EFX 1000 to devastating effect. In 2006, Greg joined the PF Agency, and is going from strength to strength, spinning to packed crowds at Lush, Godskitchen, Slinky, Inside Out, Goodgreef, Passion, Gatecrasher, The Gallery and a host of others including dates around the world in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Shanghai, Poland and Indonesia. In 2007, Greg attracted the attention of John Digweed with his remix of ‘Heaven Scent’, which featured on the massive Cream’s Ibiza 2007 compilation and championed by Eddie Halliwell on his Radio 1 show. Greg has also appeared twice on Eddie’s show in the last twelve months, most recently in September, where he delivered an ingenious Full Fire Mix. Greg has enjoyed huge success with his own track, ‘Vivid Intent’ last year, which Armin Van Buuren picked as his ‘tune of the week’ on his award-winning State Of Trance radio show! 2007 has also seen Greg record his first Live As album on Discover. Recorded live from this years mega Planet Love Festival in Northern Ireland, the album is due for release early next year and has already been topped as ‘Album of the month’ in the January issue of Mixmag! Supported regularly by the likes of Paul van Dyk, Tiesto ,Armin, Ferry Corsten, Eddie Halliwell, Judge Jules, Sander van Doorn Above and Beyond and many more, Greg also has the release of his new track ‘Once Again’ to look forward to. Played 5 weeks in the row on Radio One, this along with the release of his album in January is going to be a fantastic start of 2008! Most recently Greg has been snapped up by Paul van Dyk for his label Vandit. The forthcoming Greg Downey EP includes two tracks , Stadium and Alpha and will be one of biggest of 2008, mark our words! Predicted by Matt Hardwick as the break through DJ for 2008 and at only 24 years old, Greg’s many achievements, alongside his outstanding technical ability and passion to succeed will make him a household name. 15. Digital Society catches up with John O'Callaghan before his return to D.S friday 12th september! Hi John hope things are good? Very well thanks! I am in Poland at the moment just waiting on my lift to the Creamfields site - bring it on! You have been busy in production and DJing wise? Have you any new material on the horizon? I am working on my next artist album which will hopefully be out in 2009. Some interesting new colloborations and also another track with Audrey which is great to get back in the studio with her. DJing has been going well too with some trips to the USA and South America, also I am back in Australia for the first time in 3 years in October which I am looking forward to! Who has been a major influence for you in your musical career? Mauro Picotto, The Beastie Boys, Coldplay, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Paul van Dyk...Ben Sims. What is the most challenging aspect of being a DJ/Producer? Offering something new that the hundreds of other djs/producers don't offer, which is obviously almost impossible. It's hard to be on the front edge of new creative styles but I try my best to experiment in the studio and try new things with each production. With so many people now making tunes its even more important to make your production quality as high as it can be. Quality not quantity! What advice have you got for anyone wanting to make it as a DJ or/and producer? Have as much fun as you can with it because if you take it too seriously you will end up having higher expectations than might be possible - expect nothing, hope for everything! What is your most funniest/embarrassing moment as a DJ moment? Bit of a boring one really but probably the power going out in the whole arena at a recent festival, after 20mins of my set. Stood there for 10mins but the electricty didn't come back on so they shut down the arena, with people still standing in the crowd - one guy shouted - 'sorry john'.... cringe!! And finally tell us a random/interesting fact about yourself? My middle name is actually Mannix, which many people thought I just made up as an alias. It is my Grandad's name which derives from an old Irish meaning of the word 'monk'. we have limited pre-sale tickets remaining for our september 12th event!. To pick one up at £12 head over to : www.ticketweb.co.uk New forum and website now online! come join the society www.digitalsociety.co.uk www.johnocallaghan.net
