  1. On Monday, February 22nd, Evanescence started recording their upcoming third album in New York with famed producer Steve Lillywhite. Singer Amy Lee tells Rolling Stone the new disc is going to be a mix of “sarcastic aggression” that will show a new side of the band — a distinct electro influence. “A lot of bands I’ve always been inspired by are just coming into play a little more,” says Lee, citing the future-shock sounds of Depeche Mode, Massive Attack, Portishead, CSS, La Roux and MGMT. “There’s a lot of stuff that doesn’t sound like Evanescence, but the heart of the band of still there. This is a really, really, rhythmically driven record. So there’s tons of drum-programming fused with live drums; drums we’re renting a day at a time, like Japanese taiko drums.” Source
  2. New video by OK GO. "My band is famous for music videos. We direct them ourselves or with the help of friends, we shoot them on shoestring budgets and, like our songs, albums and concerts, we see them as creative works and not as our record company’s marketing tool" they said to The New York Times. 4. Guru, the leader of Gang Starr and the Jazzmatazz project, is in a coma after suffering a heart attack Sunday (February 28). The 43-year-old rapper is set to undergo surgery today (March 1). Guru’s Gang Starr partner DJ Premier confirmed the MC’s condition in a call to satellite radio program Hip Hop Nation, the Guardian reports.
  5. Italian label Frontiers Records is very proud to announce the signing of legendary rock band Whitesnake. David Coverdale and band are gearing up for their latest adventure. Whitesnakehas already started composing new material that promises to deliver one of the finest chapters in Whitesnake's career. 'We are off to a very good start, with the new songs taking positive shape. It feels good, fresh & exciting,' explains Coverdale. The next release already feels like a solid, natural progression to their last opus, the successful, critically acclaimed 'Good To Be Bad’ album, awarded by the influential Classic Rock magazine as 'Best Album of the Year' in 2008. 'As always, we want to take it to the next level,' states’ Coverdale. 'I feel that with the last album we achieved a strong WHITESNAKE 'cocktail’ that comfortably embraced & mixed all the previous musical aspects & styles of the band’s history, while taking our identity a little further... all on one album..."

  8. In what was a historic night for Depeche Mode last night at their launch of Teenage Cancer Trust’s 10th anniversary of gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, the band were sensationally reunited on-stage with ex-band member Alan Wilder, after a wait of 16 years. Wilder appeared as a special guest during the show to perform 'Somebody' with Martin Gore. A well-kept secret was finally revealed to an unsuspecting audience at the moment of the first encore, in what was the band’s first-ever show at the Royal Albert Hall. "Dave contacted me a few weeks back and asked if I'd be willing to join them on-stage,' says Alan. 'He assured me that everyone in the band was into the idea. I was very happy to accept, especially as it was all in a good cause and we were long overdue some kind of reunion of this sort. It was great to see everyone again and catch up a bit, and it was also the first time I have actually 'seen' Depeche Mode perform!" In a night of firsts and rarities for Depeche Mode, they also played a nape-prickling version of 'One Caress’, 'Home’ and 'Come Back’ with strings, for the first time in 17 years. This unique and memorable show was in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust, with all proceeds going towards the charity. You can relive the moment by purchasing the show from depechemodelive.com – once again, all proceeds go to the Teenage Cancer Trust.
  9. Excellent band from England that I didn't know existed. Heard "Boy like a timebomb" on the radio and thought it was a really old track. The DJ then said that it was a 2002 track by Noonday Underground from their album Surface Noise. Good stuff http://www.youtube.c...h?v=M50cPCifkM0 Link From AllMusic.com: The duo of DJ Simon Dine and vocalist Daisy Martey threw their hats into the ever-growing ring of record-collector rock as Noonday Underground. After Dine's departure from Adventures in Stereo around 1997, the duo hooked up after allegedly bumping into each other at a Clapham pizza restaurant. Culling their influences from all things late '60s -- from exotic film music to West Coast pop to the production techniques of Jack Nitzche -- they quietly issued their debut LP, Self-Assembly, in 2000. Setanta reissued the record the following year. Paul Weller was an early supporter of the duo; in a poll for the NME, he rather bizarrely listed them as "Most Influential Band of All Time."
