1. Several aspects of this week's new release "Anonymous" are unexpected. From the controversial plot to Roland Emmerich turning away from big-budget action to tell a story about Shakespeare, much of it should surprise audiences, but one of the most interesting choices made by the creators of the film was the actor in the lead role, Rhys Ifans. Known in the US for his smaller, oddball roles like Xenophilius Lovegood in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1" and as Curt Connors in "The Amazing Spider-Man," Ifans may not seem like the natural fit for the role of the Earl of Oxford, and when the actor sat down with MTV News' Josh Horowitz, he talked about his struggle to secure the lead in "Anonymous." Ifans said that the first step was meeting director Roland Emmerich in his home in London and answering a question. "I read the script, and he asked me which role would I kind of be interested in. I told him, 'If I assume you are kind of a run of the mill director, you would offer me the part of Shakespeare—which Rafe Spall plays flawlessly and brilliantly—but if you were a brave and courageous director you would maybe consider me for the part of an English aristocrat who wrote the complete works of Shakespeare.'" But Emmerich and the studio was still unsure of casting Ifans, but according the actor, the casting director stepped in to assure that he could handle the role. "I remember the casting director at the time telling Roland, 'No, honestly Roland, I've seen him in the theater. He does really good posh. He's very good at being posh,'" Ifans said. "Anonymous" hits theaters today (Oct 28). 12. When I suggested that another "Harry Potter" complete DVD boxed set was on its way in the next year or so, I wasn't very far off. Warner Bros might be making a big deal of the fact that "Harry Potter" DVDs are being taken off shelves starting December 29, but they won't be gone forever. In fact, one head honcho over at WB says that yes, there will be a new even better special edition boxed set of all eight "Potter" DVDs due out by the end of 2012. Entertainment Weekly chatted with Warner Bros's senior VP and general manager of their theatrical catalog Jeff Baker, who says that execs at WB are planning on a new boxed set focused on special features due out next year. "There is discussion internally about aggregating assets from all of these films over the last decade and adding some new things -- we’ve never done an Ultimate Edition on the final two films -- and doing some grand kind of piece," he says. "It could be the end of 2012 or the beginning of ’13." In other words, the current boxed set that is coming out on November 11 that has all eight "Potter" DVDs doesn't sound like the be-all-end-all collector's item for die-hard "Potter" fans, which explains why the current boxed set is going for $60 on Amazon.com, by all intents and purposes a steal. If you -- like me -- have been saving your pretty pennies for a compilation that includes a whole slew of special features, perhaps its best to hold off on purchasing the DVDs until next year when the (better) edition comes out. Baker adds that, though WB has been making a big deal about how they're pulling the "Potter" DVDs off shelves on December 29, the DVDs will probably still be around at the beginning of next year. It's not that WB is issuing a recall of the DVDs, it's that they won't be shipping out any new ones. "Even though there could be a sense of urgency from the consumers' perspective, there will be 'Potter' product come the first of the year," he explains. "But over time, they’ll be less and less of that inventory. At some point, whether it's next April or May or June or July, it'll probably be very difficult to find 'Harry Potter' product, especially if you're looking for the third movie or the fifth movie, for example." If you had been getting worried that you'd never be able to find a "Potter" DVD again after December 29, this should ease your fears. The Boy Who Lived isn't going to be gone forever, and he'll likely be back before you even get a chance to really miss him. With that in mind, plus their reassurance that there will still be Potter product on shelves next year (though rarer in the springish season), does that make you feel less rushed about getting Potter now? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter! View the full article
 13. By Gil Kaufman Jamaican dancehall star Vybz Kartel (born Adidja Palmer) will stay behind bars until at least next Wednesday, when a judge will decide whether to grant the singer bail as he awaits trial on two murder cases. According to the Jamaican Gleaner, that's when the judge in the case will make a ruling on the bail request made by Kartel's attorney's on Thursday. But, before that, Kartel will be back in gun court on Monday in connection with the second murder charge that recently brought against him. In that case, he is accused in the death of Clive "Lizard" Williams. Kartel, 35, has been in custody since October 1, when he and three other men were arrested at a New Kingston hotel for possession of marijuana; he was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of firearm three days later in the July 12 death of promoter Barrington "Bossie" Burton. Williams was killed on August 16 and his body has not yet been found. MTV Iggy recently spoke to Christian Tavares-Finson, a key member of Kartel's defense team, who refuted a story that circulated last month that police had questioned his client about a partially burned body allegedly recovered from one of his properties. “That is not true,” said Tavares-Finson. "I don’t know where the press got that from.” Those initial reports, it turns out, were somewhat overstated. Palmer was questioned and several of his properties raided. But the residence in question—a house in the Havendale section of Kingston—was apparently not Palmer’s." Tavares-Finson also said that the first murder charge is a conspiracy count, which he explained charges that Kartel "[told] people that they should go and kill an individual who was shot in an area of Portmore [where Burton was killed].” Though Assistant Police Commissioner Ealan Powell said the murder charges were part of a larger investigation of Vybz’ activities, covering not only the two murders but other shootings and alleged gun-running, Tavares-Finson was bullish about Kartel's chances in court. “I am of the view that if I were the police I would have put my best foot forward. So if you apply that theory, the first murder with which he was charged would be the most significant one … the most solid or the most probable for the prosecution to secure a conviction. As far we are concerned, that case is tenuous at best. So if that is the best case that they have at this stage, I am not sure what is to follow." 15. By Dionne Buxton It’s that time of year again, when you can finally get away with channeling your inner monster, freak, or that downright weird alter ego. Cable TV lineups are now heavy with reruns of cult favorite horror movies and it’s more than likely that you’ll find Michael Jackson’s full-length “Thriller” video on repeat as well. Now, no disrespect to the King of Pop, but with rappers like Kanye West and Tyler, The Creator running around, there’s a whole new batch of creepy music videos floating around. Check out RapFix’s countdown of the top 5 creepiest hip-hop videos that aired in 2011. 1. MellowHype – “64” This video is isn't for the faint of heart. Mellowhype’s “64” will literally have you cringing in anticipation, wondering what kind of sick images will flash across the screen next. With segments reminiscent of horror film, The Grudge—starring that creepy, dark haired ghost—this video will definitely get you in the spirit of Halloween. Hell, it might actually get the spirit in you. 64 - Mellowhype from dragonash on Vimeo. 2. Kanye West – “Monster” Kanye West brought along a few of his “Monster” buddies for this video. Jay-Z, Rick Ross and Nicki Minaj all make appearances in this spooky, off-the-wall masterpiece. The fun begins with Yeezy’s bedroom scene, starring two dead models, it continues with a little bit of cannibalism during Jigga’s verse and climaxes with a profile of Nicki Minaj’s derriere during a battle with her alter ego. Monster by Kanye West from FRANKUPDATES on Vimeo. 3. Tyler, The Creator – “Yonkers” MTV’s 2011 “Best New Artist” winner, Tyler, The Creator has taken creepy to another level with his downright disturbing clip for the single “Yonkers.” His menacing tone on the track, paired with the black-and-white visuals, create a perfectly creepy—and awesome—effect. Top that off with roaches, puke, a noose, blacked out eyeballs and we have a top contender. Tyler The Creator - Yonkers from GiostaV on Vimeo. 4. Kid Cudi – “No One Believes Me” Kid Cudi gets his Edward Cullen on in the visuals for “No One Believes Me.” The vampire-inspired reel might leave you with a bit of anxiety, if only because you’re not really sure what’s happening. And if deserted neighborhoods, blood-splattered windows and fangs aren’t creepy enough, the random gazing toddler will definitely make your skin crawl. Get More: Kid Cudi, Music, More Music Videos 5. Frank Ocean – “Thinking About You” Singer/songwriter extraordinaire, Frank Ocean, definitely confused the masses with the video for his song “Thinking About You.” Despite his lovesick lyrics, the video is full of teepees, death and strange mid-century references. Don’t rack your brain trying to find the symbolism between the track and cinema—we’re pretty sure there isn’t any. Frank Ocean - Thinking About You (music video) from High5Collective on Vimeo. 20. Originally, Justin Timberlake's new sci-fi action flick was called "Now." Apparently, though, that title didn't effectively communicate what the movie was all about, which isn't exactly surprising because what the movie, now called "In Time," is all about is kinda high-concept and confusing. Go with us (and JT) for a second. In this cinematic future, overpopulation was a biiiiiiig problem, so scientists figured out how to slice and dice the human genome to the point where aging stops when you're 25. Seeing as how people like living and don't want to die young, time has become the new currency, something earned during work and spent like cash. How exactly time can be earned, stolen and kept track of on a fancy neon clock on your arm (as well as why everyone in the future is so damn good looking) is never really explained. And why should it be? Confounding high-concept plots are a Hollywood staple. In this sense, "In Time" joins the sometimes glorious, sometimes grating pantheon of movies with extremely confusing premises. "The Jacket": An amnesic Gulf War veteran takes an experimental drug, locks himself in a morgue chamber and is able to travel 15 years into the future, where he learns he might already be dead in one timeline but not another. Or something. Somebody revoke Adrien Brody's Oscar. "Primer": An excellent low-budget time-travel flick so sciencey you need a PhD or two tabs of acid to understand it. "Lost in Space": As if the sight of Joey from "Friends" as an action hero isn't perplexing enough, this adaptation introduces a third-act time-travel plotline that makes less sense than Herman Cain's tax plan. Why, Gary Oldman, why? "Inception": The only thing more impressive than this dream-within-a-dream-within-a-bunch-of-other-dreams movie is how the hell Christopher Nolan pulled it all off. "Donnie Darko: Is it too harsh to say that anyone who thinks this is a brilliantly conceived work where suburban alienation and sci-fi mindf--k dovetail to create a generation-defining film is an idiot? Oh well. The movie makes no sense. And the rabbit thing is silly. "Detention": Just watch the trailer and then try and explain what the eff that movie is about. "The Thirteenth Floor: This is a prime example of a bad-good sci-fi film. Don't ask why no one in this virtual-reality storyline never traveled outside of town to discover — oh shiz! — they live in virtual reality too. "Johnny Mnemonic": Who would allow any sensitive information to be uploaded for safe-keeping into Keanu Reeve's brain? Maybe if David Fincher or David Wain remade this movie, it could be darkly creepy or darkly ridiculous, but there's a reason Robert Longo has only been allowed to make one movie since it. "The Fountain": It'd take far more caffeine than is available at our local Starbucks just to summon up enough energy to summarize what the heck goes down in this time-hopping movie about…well, honestly, we can't. Deal with it. Every David Lynch movie ever: I mean, amiright?! View the full article

Our contestants: Freddy Krueger ("A Nightmare on Elm Street"), Jason Voorhees ("Friday the Thirteenth"), Michael Myers ("Halloween"), Ghostface ("Scream"), Leatherface ("The Texas Chainsaw Massacre"), Chucky ("Child's Play"), Norman Bates ("Psycho"), Pinhead ("Hellraiser"), Hannibal Lecter ("Silence of the Lambs") and Jigsaw ("Saw"). Style, weapons, personality and gross factor aside, a horror movie killer's greatest asset is the legacy he leaves behind, whether we're talking about the continued success of these murderers' respective franchises or the long history of bloodshed they've carved out in the fictional worlds they exist in. Rank the killers' haunting legacies -- one being completely forgettable, five being everlasting -- beyond the break. This is the last Killer Halloween category, and voting continues until Sunday (October 30) at 7PM EST. Check back on Halloween for all of the final results! Freddy Krueger As long as teenagers are dreaming, Freddy will be there to haunt them. After nine official films, it's certain that Freddy is here stay, and since he exists primarily in dreams, there is truly no killing this killer. Jason Voorhees Arguably, the killer that has had to suffer through the most deaths and resurrections and, more importantly, the most really bad sequels, Jason's run may have been rough, but all it takes is a lightning strike or a down wire to send him back on the hunt. Michael Myers Depending on who you ask, Michael Myers either benefitted or was hurt by two remakes by Rob Zombie, but the reboot did prove that people are still interested in the man in the William Shatner mask. Ghostface The killer who was always in on the joke and always knew the rules of the game has skewed further and further into meta-madness with each subsequent sequel, but there will always be something intriguing about the voice on the other end of the phone. Leatherface For as much as he's seen in popular culture these days, Leatherface is only associated with one truly memorable movie, and because of the original's status as a horror classic, Leatherface's legacy lives on. Chucky Years after the original run of films and then the two most recent films, "The Bride of Chucky" and "The Seed of Chucky," it's pretty much safe to say that the character is more memorable than the films, but few can forget the lovable look of evil on the creepy doll's face. Norman Bates Thankfully, few people remember the sequels. (To be fair, some people consider "Psycho III" an underappreciated classic.) But the unforgettable original film will remain one of the essential horror films for generations to come. It can be argued that there would be no slasher genre without Norman Bates, and to that end, you gotta respect the original. Pinhead Unfortunately, Pinhead's legacy has been more or less relegated to direct-to-video sequels, and similar to Chucky, the character has transcended the public knowledge of the films he starred in. Hannibal Lecter The good doctor has the power of the Academy Awards on his side. With "Silence of the Lambs" sweeping the major categories in 1992, Lecter's status as one of cinema's most memorable characters was cemented. Jigsaw Is he finally dead? There have been so many sequels it's honestly hard to say. Since 2011 was the first Halloween in 8 years where a new "Saw" film hasn't debuted, Jigsaw may be gone for good. Until they reboot, that is. Check out the results from Killer Halloween's Gross Factor poll! What he lacks in personality he more than makes up for in vomit-inducing kills, as Leatherface is the champion in the Gross Factor category! He's followed extremely closely by the inventive psychopath Jigsaw, with flesh-hungry Hannibal and dream-haunting Freddy Krueger hanging in the three and four spots. Once again, no respect for Norman Bates, who scored lowest in this category -- perhaps he'll bounce back once Legacy is measured, as there's no doubt that his influence on horror movies is immeasurable.
