Gary Ross gets that you're excited for "The Hunger Games." That's why he took some time off from filming to chat with us at MTV News about the questions you most want to have answered about the currently filming movie. What are the scenes that Ross is most excited to film? How much training did Jennifer Lawrence do to play Katniss? Will Ross please dish on how they're portraying the Girl on Fire scene? And how big a part of the film is T Bone Burnett and Danny Elfman's score going to be? He answered [s]all[/s] most of these in the above video, and we broke down his responses after the jump. The Music "T Bone and Danny haven't really started working yet. We've all begun working together, we've all begun discussing music, pulling references, going through the initial process you go through. Music can actually affect the movie almost more than anything else. It establishes the tone and it literally can change the way you feel or perceive a movie and so that's a very, very long discussion that happens between me, T Bone and Danny, and that's already begun," Ross said, adding, "That's not going to start to bear fruit for a while." The Training "It's an intensely physical movie, first of all. Jen is in, someone said, Jen's in 110 percent of the movie, which is really true. She works every day all day and it's a very physically demanding thing that she's doing, and she did train really, really rigorously," Ross explained. "She worked with an athletic trainer, someone that conditions athletes in Los Angeles, she had intensive archery training, so she's had a very rigorous athletic conditioning program." The Girl On Fire Sorry, fans, but Ross wouldn't spill the beans on this one. "There's some things you don't want to give away. You wouldn't want me to give it away," he said. "I think it's going to be a fantastic moment when it happens in the movie, and I could tell you what that is verbally but it would kind of wreck it for people. I'm going to resist the temptation to give a spoiler on my own movie right here." Rue's Death "I think there's many iconic moments in the movie. There're many moments that fans gravitate to. They're tremendously important to them," Ross said. "Obviously the death of Rue is something that every fan brings up, and how emotionally powerful that is, how important it is to the movie that you not pull punches, but that it also be handled sensitively and emotionally and honor the emotion of it. That's just a beautiful scene, and T Bone wrote a beautiful lullaby for Prim's Lullaby that's actually sung to Rue." The Other Big Moments Ross said there are many scenes that fans consider to be the most important, but there are a few that he considers among the most significant. He recently shot the scene where Katniss is about to enter the Hunger Games and has a "tense moment with Cinna before she actually has to leave." Then there's the tribute parade where she is revealed as the Girl on Fire, though Ross won't tell us any more details about that. And lastly there's the berries scene with Peeta at the end of the movie, which Ross thinks is "one of the most poignant and really powerful things in the book." George Clooney Leaves Steven Soderbergh's 'Man From U.N.C.L.E.'
NelsonG posted a topic in Movie Talk

The Oscar winning actor has long been attached to Steven Soderbergh's adaptation of the 1960s spy drama, but Deadline reports that Clooney is now walking away from the project. It's unclear exactly why he's stepping aside, especially given the frequency with which Clooney and Soderbergh have teamed up in the past, but regardless of the reasons, Soderbergh is now left looking for a new "U.N.C.L.E." … or is he? Chalk it up to serendipitous timing or just another rehash of an old story, but Soderbergh is once again tooting the retirement horn. Speaking with The New York Times (via The Hollywood Reporter), Soderbergh repeated his desire to retire from film directing to pursue work in other forms of art, including painting. "I'm interested in exploring another art form while I have the time and ability to do so," he told the Times. "I'll be the first person to say if I can't be any good at it and run out of money I'll be back making another 'Ocean's' movie." Even if retirement is in the cards, Soderbergh still has a long way to go before shutting down the cameras: his action flick "Haywire" is just around the corner, he's in pre-production on the stripper drama "Magic Mike" based on Channing Tatum's life, he still has the Matt Damon and Michael Douglas-starring "Liberace" biopic to make and, of course, there's "U.N.C.L.E." … but without Clooney, is it possible that Soderbergh will tap out early, or will he find another leading man to celebrate his last hoorah as a director with? With the news of Jay-Z and wife Beyoncé expecting their first child as the hotly debated topic of discussion in the music industry, it wouldn't be no surprise if the floodgates were to open for many more hip-hop couples to follow in their path. Paparazzi just about fell off their pedestals on the red carpet when the R&B diva flashed her growing belly as she made her entrance towards the 2011 Video Music Awards. Prior to Beyoncé's entrance, another couple who also graced the red carpet and have flirted with the possibility of walking down the aisle and becoming parents was none other than rapper Wiz Khalifa and girlfriend Amber Rose. As the case with Hov and B, Wiz and Amber have also been a heavy topic of discussion regarding their relationship. A few weeks back Rose hinted that she was ready to settle down with her boyfriend. "I want to be a mom really bad. I really want babies," Rose recently told website Global Grind. "I'll be 28 in October, and my maternal instinct is ready." While walking the VMA red carpet the couple spoke publicly together for the first time about extending their relationship to a more permanent status. "We discuss it all the time; like he said, we're very much in love," Rose told MTV News while standing next to her "Black and Yellow" rapper. "But, ya know, we're just going to take our time and just enjoy each other right now. We're both really busy and we work really hard and when the time comes, it's gonna come." Who will be the next hip-hop couple to become parents? View the full article

Tha Carter IV has finally arrived, and after a rocked-out VMA performance finale last night Lil Wayne took the celebration to Boulevard3 in Hollywood, California. It’s been a long road, but Weezy’s long-awaited ninth solo LP was released digitally at midnight on Monday and will physically be in stores on Tuesday. Tunechi wasn’t the only one in party mode as memebers of his YMCMB fam joined him to toast to C4. Drake, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Cory Gunz, Mack Maine, Tyga and Lil Twist were all in attendance just to name a few. Throughout the night the DJ played hits from Weezy’s catalogs and partygoers talked about Tha Carter IV all night with MTV News. "Wayne dropped his album at the VMAs like a boss, that's something an artist can only dream of,†Ross said. DJ Khaled was both proud and overjoyed. "I'm happy for him and I'm happy for all his success, and I'm a fan as well," the Miami DJ/producer said while seated between Rozay and Drake. When it came time to talk the best C4 tracks there were a bunch of favorites. "My favorite song probably is 'Blunt Blowin',' 'Abortion' [or] 'I'm Good,' " YMCMB rapper Tyga said. Young Money president Mack Maine like some of Tha Carter IV’s more subdued tracks. "I'm a lady's man so I like 'She Will' and I like 'So Special' a lot," he said. Today (August 29), globally beloved singer and entertainer Michael Jackson would have celebrated his 53rd birthday if not for his untimely and tragic passing in June of 2009. The known “King Of Pop†leaves behind a staggering legacy of music and memories spanning over the course of his 40-plus years in music. Recognized as the most successful entertainer of all time by the Guinness Book of World Records, Jackson has released influential works and introduced dance routines that current entertainers still try their best to respectfully mimic. Born in Gary, Indiana in 1958, Jackson’s humble Midwest roots were coupled with the driving force of his musician father Joseph corralling Michael and his brothers – collectively known as musical troupe The Jackson 5 – into the entertainment business although as later revealed through interviews, Michael’s relationship with his father was strained amid allegations of physical and verbal abuse. However, Jackson would go on to credit his father for much of his musical success. 1972 was when Jackson went solo, releasing two hit albums that year in Got To Be There and Ben. It was 1979’s Off The Wall, however, that paved the way for much of Jackson’s future hits and formed an early blueprint in the singer becoming a global icon – to date the album has sold over 20 million copies worldwide. For some fans, Jackson’s signature work and career defining album would be his follow up Thriller. With unconfirmed reports stating the album has sold in a range of 65 to 110 million units worldwide, it is currently the highest selling album of all time. Jackson went on to enjoy more fame with his releases Bad and Dangerous faring well on the charts. His last studio release in 2001, Invincible, didn’t have the impact as some of his earlier smash albums although the release went on to sell 13 million copies around the globe. Invincible was also Michael Jackson’s more notable forays into injecting Hip Hop into his usually glossy pop sound, with one track featuring a posthumous verse from the late Notorious B.I.G. While gone, Michael Jackson is hardly forgotten as legions of fans continue to honor and celebrate the man. With his soul stirring Motown 25 performance to his signature dance moves and even his sequined gloved hand, Michael Jackson sits at the top as one of the greatest – if not the greatest – entertainers of all time. Happy Birthday, Michael Jackson! View the full article

Among the biggest surprises at last night's (August 28) MTV Video Music Awards, none was more jaw-dropping than R&B diva and wife of rap icon Jay-Z Beyoncé sporting a brand new baby bump. During her somewhat subdued VMA performance, Bey revealed the bump in its entire splendor by opening her sequined tuxedo top and rubbing her protruding belly with an excited Kanye West cheering his friend and proud papa Jay-Z on. The big reveal of the baby-to-be culminates Jay-Z’s long running desire to be a father, something the rapper has spoken upon many times over the course of his career. Back in 2008, the Brooklyn rap vet told reporters at U.N.A. Global Leadership Awards Gala in New York that he’d be delighted to join the ranks of fatherhood. “Most people dream of having a family someday," Jay-Z said vaguely to reporters. "So I'm just a regular American boy.†In a detailed interview with Oprah Winfrey back in 2009, Jay-Z spoke of his estranged relationship with his own father and also discussed how marriage has changed him for the better. While he didn't directly speak about parenthood with Oprah, Jay-Z did say that "[t]aking care of my family" was important to him. That same year, Jay-Z gave an interview to Gotham magazine in where he revealed plans to start a familym although Beyoncé at the time had other plans and wanted to focus on her still burgeoning career. In 2010, Jay-Z opened up further about parenthood in an interview with Sweden’s Kingsize magazine. “I’d like to be a dad some day and I love children. You start your life with expectations and dreams, then life unfolds and it doesn’t always turn out the way you imagined. Life is what it is. And at this point it’s up to somebody else,†shared Jay-Z. On his joint album with Kanye West, the RZA-produced track “New Day†was one of the more personal and heartfelt songs on the album as the rap superstars offer tender words to their unborn sons – and while the sex of the Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s child is yet unknown, it appears that Jay-Z already has laid down the blueprint – pun not intended – in being a great dad for he and his wife’s new baby. Jay's verse from the track shows glaring humility. "Sorry junior, I already ruined ya/Cause you ain’t even alive, paparazzi pursuin’ ya/Sins of a father make your life ten times harder/I just wanna take ya to a barber/Bondin’ on charters, all the shit that I never did/Teach ya good values so you cherish it/Took me 26 years to find my path/My only job is cut the time in half" – as the verse finds Hov seemingly ready to take on the responsibility of being a dad. The 2011 MTV Video Music Awards last night (August 28) gave the audience in attendance and the fans at home plenty of thrills and a few surprise moments amid the pomp of the large affair. From Lady Gaga’s total transformation into Jo Calderone to Kanye West and Jay-Z shocking audiences with a performance of "Otis" as unannounced performers – not to mention Jay’s wife’s big baby bump reveal – the VMAs were a smash by most accounts. Some of the award wins were a big shock as well with the band of foul-mouthed misfits Odd Future and their de facto leader Tyler The Creator winning big. In the tightly contested Best New Artist category, Kanye West protégé Big Sean, Bay Area newbie sensation Kreayshawn, the ultra-cool Wiz Khalifa, indie rockers Foster The People and controversial potty mouthed rapper Tyler The Creator were all vying the coveted VMA Moonman. Tyler The Creator shocked the world once again by winning the award and his profanity-laced acceptance speech was preceded by a slip and fall onstage. Sitting next to his mother, Tyler The Creator tweeted nervously as he awaited the announcement – belying all of the arrogance and bravado some have placed upon the 20-year-old California native. When his name was called, Tyler slipped and fell offstage and was helped up by none other than Kanye West – who famously called Tyler’s clip “Yonkers†the video of the year via his Twitter account early in 2011. Although apparently emotional, Tyler kept true to form with his bleeped out acceptance speech. “Yo, I'm excited as f--- right now, yo," he said. "I wanted this sh-- since I was 9. I'm about to cry. This is for my little brother Earl. He's not here right now. I really can't believe I'm here right now. I didn't write a thank you speech. I don't know. F---. To all the kids watching, you can do this sh--. Thank you,†said Tyler as his mom shouted gleefully from the crowd. Congratulations to Tyler The Creator and the rest of the Odd Future gang! As this year’s MTV Video Music Awards came to a close last night (August 28), Young Money honcho Lil Wayne and his show-ending performance was a much discussed topic amongst fans and industry insiders clamoring to discover what exactly would the New Orleans native bring to the VMA stage. The murmurs were hushed finally near the conclusion of the VMAs and although it began slowly, Lil Wayne hyped up the audience by suddenly morphing into full rock star mode. Starting with his hit rap ballad “How To Love,†Wayne lulled the crowd with his auto-tuned vocals before ramping up the energy to ten with a rock-fueled rendition of his single “John†sans the feature verse from Maybach Music Group boss Rick Ross. Rapping partly over the actual vocals from the track, Lil Wayne dashed madly about the stage while delivering his verses and even jumped into the crowd to salute Ross during the track’s hook. Fans tuning on to catch Tunechi’s performance took to Twitter, as a bevy of comments continue to pour in hours later. The event had so much fanfare attached to it that even news anchor Katie Couric was caught up in the hype. “Are any of you watching #VMAs? @twitter is buzzing! Need 2 tune in & see my friend @LilTunechi aka Lil Wayne! ("I'm a gangsta, Miss Katie"),†tweeted Couric. Some critical fans had plenty to say about Lil Wayne’s fashion choice for the performance, with some users going for the jugular. “Lil wayne kinda lost. He's reaching for two crowds, hood and skater sides. Unfortunately, the hood doesn't accept zebra pants wearin bloods,†tweeted a disappointed @onBROADWAYst. However, Wayne had some folks on his side although most comments focused more on his wardrobe than the show itself. “You know Lil Wayne is a badass when he is done performing when he throws down the guitar and mic stand. #realtalk,†tweeted a supportive @bigcov. Fan @iamBabyC gave Wayne props for his performance but still sided with The Throne’s rendition of “Otis†as the tops for the night. “Respects to LIL WAYNE but Like I Said BEST PERFORMANCE --> Kanye West & Jay Z!!!†read his tweet.
