4. Superstar rapper Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday: Roman's Reloaded LP officially hit stores today and one of the most talked about tracks on the album features fellow Queens royalty MC Nas on the surprise collaboration "Champion." Fans have been raving about "The Don's" appearance on the song but according to Miss Minaj she didn't think the pairing would become a reality. "I didn't think I could get Nas, just to be honest" Nicki Minaj told New York radio station Power 105.1. "He's always been so exclusive. He doesn't work with everybody and I respect people that are like that. They take pride in their craft," she explained. "When I first got in the studio, it was just gonna be all rap, that's why I named [my debut] Roman Reloaded. Things just don't keep my attention long enough to only do one thing. By the time the album was done, it was just a versatile album. But I have to say, I feel like people love saying the pop word first. The album is more hip-hop than pop." The Empire State Building should be lit up in pink lights tonight because “Champion"-- the latest track to leak from Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded album--is what everyone is raving about in the Twittersphere. Nicki reminds us why she earned the #4 position as the "Hottest MC in the Game" this year. After hearing very playful verses on previously leaked tracks, Nicki shows that she can still hold her own lyrically, on a track with hip-hop’s elite. The track features labelmate Drake, Trap Star Young Jeezy, and hip-hop vet Nas. It’s not easy to land a verse from the Queensbridge MC. MTV News caught up with Nasty recently and he spoke on recording with Nicki. “If I feel it I can get on it," he said. "I heard the track. I felt it. I loved it.” Apparently, he loved it so much that he opened up about the early stages in the hip-hop game and what makes him a champion, rapping, “I inspire/your desire to be different.” With the release of this track Nicki Minaj has finally provided a little bit of something for all of her fans. There are treats for everyone ranging from pop songs, to the dance tracks, to the lyrical and thought provoking joints. Nicki is proving herself to indeed be a “Champion." To celebrate Tuesday's (April 3) release of Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, we will be examining the "Evolution of Nicki Minaj" throughout the week. Check MTV News every day to see how the Southside Jamaica, Queens, Barbie went from a promising mixtape standout to rap's reigning queen. 9. By Kevin Lavi The Limp Bizkit comeback has reached a new high with their recent signing to Cash Money Records, but now Fred Durst is looking to make some changes to the group. The Limp Bizkit front man is reportedly considering releasing two of his original band members, DJ Lethal, and John Otto. Fred Durst reportedly has a new vision which he wants to take with the band and this vision does not include DJ Lethal and John Otto. What's Birdman think about this? As rumors of their imminent departure start to make the rounds, DJ Lethal had something to say about the matter. "We've worked together the last four years to bring Limp Bizkit back to where it is today and to just be thrown out on the street after the band gets a new deal and a new chance at life isn't cool," he said. "You can't push away the people who helped you get there. The fans should know that if two-fifths of the original band are not playing at the concerts, it won't be truthful to them." In late February Lim Bizkit inked a deal with Cash Money Records, joining the likes of Drake and Nicki Minaj. Could the signing with Cash Money have anything to do with the rumors of Limp Bizkit going in a new direction? 11. In January, a Dutch court ruled that Ziggo, the largest ISP in the country, and competitor XS4ALL, must block access to The Pirate Bay. Both ISPs appealed the verdict, but in the meantime affected subscribers have plenty of ways to route around the blockades. In the space of a few days hundreds of individuals setup proxy websites that allow customers of the ISPs to continue using The Pirate Bay. Countering this move, local anti-piracy outfit BREIN obtained an injunction from the Court of The Hague which instructed the proxy site tpb.dehomies.nl to shut down or face a 1000 euros a day fine. The group is now using this injunction to press other site owners to do the same. Last week the local Pirate Party also received a letter from BREIN, demanding the shutdown of their Pirate Bay proxy site hosted at tpb.piratenpartij.nl. However, unlike the site owners that were previously contacted by the group, the Pirate Party is not caving in. They would rather fight the case in court. Today the Party informed BREIN that the proxy site will stay online. To show that The Pirate Bay can be a useful communication tool the Pirate Party sent the letter through a torrent file, hosted on the BitTorrent site at the center of the dispute. “The demands are ridiculous,” Pirate Party chairman Dirk Poot told TorrentFreak. “A private lobbying organization should not be allowed to be the censor of the Dutch internet. We were also amazed to find an ex-parte decision attached, threatening Dutch minors with €1000 per day fines for operating their proxy. If we would have yielded, their trick would immediately be played out against numerous other private citizens.” According to the Pirate Party chairman BREIN’s efforts are not just going too far, they are useless too. “There are a plethora of proxy sites on the internet. On almost any them TPB can by reached, even with a single URL. That’s not even mentioning the ways you can get to TPB if you’re willing to put in more effort than saving a single URL. If this keeps going there will be no Internet left by the time BREIN has achieved its goal of making TPB inaccessible.” “In their self-righteous zealousness they have brought substantial damage to the free and open Internet,” Poot said. While the legality of The Pirate Bay and reverse proxy sites is for the courts to decide, it is clear that blocking the website hurts legitimate artists as well. In BREIN’s demand letter the anti-piracy group pasted a screenshot of the proxy site showing the Pirate Bay homepage. But ironically enough, instead of the iconic logo it showed one of the many promotional campaigns the torrent site is running for independent artists. The Pirate Party believes that the broad censorship BREIN is pushing for goes too far. And although they are not delighted to face thousands of euros in fines, they see it as their duty to fight back in court. “Unless someone calls them on their tactics, they will be allowed to continue those tactics indefinitely. Yielding does not make the problem go away. We would preferred to tackle this issue in parliament, where it belongs. However, if we have a chance to stop this ex-parte from being reused again and again, we ought to grab it. We’ll need serious donations, though…,” Poot told us. More news about the upcoming lawsuit is expected to be announced in the coming weeks. BREIN was asked to comment on the issue as well, but the group kindly declined. 12. By Marvin Van Buren DMX and his wife Tashera Simmons signed up to participate in VH1’s reality series “Couples Therapy” and since the show began airing, the couples’ turbulent marriage has been put under the spotlight. After watching a recent episode Tashera Simmons admits that she was ‘speechless’ and ‘embarrassed’ by the way DMX speaks to her. On this particular episode of “Couples Therapy” DMX engages in a heated argument with Dr. Jenn in regards to dealing with uncomfortable situations. Dr. Jenn points out that the rapper tends to simply walk away from people he doesn’t agree with and DMX responded by threatening the people around him. “You got me surrounded by f---ing cameras and it’s not going to be pretty!” he exclaimed. In an interview with The Jasmine Brand (via Vibe) Simmons expressed how she felt about the whole ordeal with her husband, saying, “… I was speechless watching when X cursed me the hell out,” she said. “At that time, when it was happening, I was so busy worried about the lies he was making up, that I didn’t realize how he was talking to me. But actually watching it, I realized that I’ve been immune to that talk all of these years, and I realized that I was in a verbally abusive relationship. I was just shocked, and embarrassed.” View the full article

 15. If the name Alex Kurtzman doesn't immediately ring a bell, his impressive body of work certainly will. Kurtzman is one half of the dynamic writing/producing team that has helped bring us a variety of action adventures over the years, like the "Star Trek" reboot and its upcoming sequel, the "Transformers" films, and the long awaited "Ender's Game" adaptation. As if he didn't already have enough on his plate, this summer we'll be getting our first look at Kurtzman's work as a director with the release of "People Like Us," starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks and Michelle Pfeiffer. The film revolves around a man who is tasked with delivering a $150,000 inheritance to a sister he has never met and is based on the real-life experiences of its writing team, Kurtzman, Bob Orci and Jody Lambert. Despite the lack of explosions and action sequences in the recently-released trailer, the character-centric story is one that Kurtzman has wanted to tell since before he started his illustrious Hollywood career. When MTV News caught up with the busy man recently, he shared a few details about the genesis of the story and why it is a true labor of love for everyone involved. "The story starts back when Bob and I met in high school," Kurtzman said of their longtime partnership that began with a shared love for Steven Soderbergh's autobiographical book about the making of his groundbreaking Indie, "Sex, Lies and Videotape." "We really wanted to tell a personal story, we were very inspired by artists who had told personal stories but we didn't have much to say [at the time], we always knew we wanted to come back to something that brought us together in the first place." Fast-forward a few decades to a moment of almost divine intervention when Kurtzman met his half-sister at age 30. "My dad had had another family before us, it wasn't a secret but there was a huge age gap," he explained. "We were separated by 15 years and geography and didn't know each other. One afternoon I was sitting in my backyard thinking about how to get in touch with them at some point and this image came to me, it ended up being the last image of the movie. I thought 'That’s where I want to get to' and thought maybe there's a story here. Three hours later I walked into a party and a woman walked up to me and said 'I'm your sister.' So it was a sign I guess you'd call it." Incredibly, Kurtzman wasn't the only one to have discovered family later in life. "When I told Bob he said, 'My aunt had a secret family that she didn't know about until she was much older.' While my family wasn't a secret, we started comparing notes and realized that our stories would blend really well." Kurtzman hopes that audiences will laugh as much as they'll cry, and that they'll enjoy the characters' journey as much as Kurtzman, Orci and Lambert did in writing it. "It took seven years to write, which is very rare for us. We're used to being on a train that kind of throws us out of the station really fast and we have to keep up with it," Kurtzman said. "That script was like a warm blanket for me for seven years. It was always the thing I could go back to and live in and luxuriate in." "People Like Us" opens June 29, coincidentally the same day as Soderbergh's latest, "Magic Mike." "It's a weird full-circle moment," Kurtzman laughed about the release dates. 16. By John Mitchell It's April 3, which means that Nicki Minaj's sophomore album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded has finally made its official debut. The 19-track LP shows a clear division between rap tracks (featured on the first half of the album) and super pop numbers (which make up the second half) and critics aren't exactly feeling the body of work as a whole. It's not Nicki's talent as a rapper that's been questioned, so much as her decision to put out dance-pop tracks for the sake of commercial appeal. Nicki Minaj Bares Skin In 'Roman Reloaded' Cover Art In an at times scathing one-and-a-half-star review, Slant praises Reloaded's opening tracks as "hard, confrontational rap songs" that are "brilliant." However, and it's a big however, "The remaining 53 minutes of Roman Reloaded are a disaster, so much so that I could fill the rest of this review with a non-exhaustive list of the most embarrassing missteps." Ouch. The album is divided "almost exactly between a rap half and a pop half," and if the rap half — particularly the tracks "Beez in the Trap" and "Come on a Cone" — is being praised, the pop half is being trashed harder than just about any pop album in recent memory. "At her best, Nicki Minaj is, line for line, one of the wittiest, most creative rappers working today, either male or female. Her many personas and voices fly through her songs with joyful abandon, and she seems to be having so much fun astonishing us," the LA Times writes. "On the first half of her second album, Pink Friday ... Roman Reloaded, the Trinidadian American rapper from New York City offers repeated evidence of her talents, and she delivers funny, biting, bawdy lines and rhyming couplets with apparent glee. ... But then, after the ridiculousness that is 'Sex in the Lounge' (which sounds like a Lonely Island parody of an R. Kelly song, and, [unsurprisingly], features Lil Wayne), the album drives off a cliff." Among the complaints: » The club bangers that compose the album's second half are "of the blandest and most cookie-cutter variety. The music behind 'Automatic' could be mistaken for a 15-year-old's first stab at making a dance track on Ableton software, a cynically simple run with clumsy synth chord progressions that were already tired when invented at cheesy 1998 raves." — LA Times » "The five RedOne-helmed tracks in a row feel as distinct and independent as the opening six did, but big synths and dramatic drops are the stars of these songs, with Minaj herself reduced to supporting player." » "There are way too many anonymous dance numbers like 'Automatic' and 'Fire Burns' that could have come from a dozen singers." — The consensus seems to be that Nicki is at her best when she's spitting lines as Roman rather than pursuing the beat-driven bubblegum that, ironically, has provided her with some of her biggest Billboard chart hits, including the RedOne-produced Reloaded single "Starships," which currently sits at #5 on the Hot 100, and her collaboration with David Guetta, "Turn Me On" (#10 this week after peaking at #4 earlier this year). There are some overall positive notices out there. In a near rave, Global Grind calls Reloaded "a rollercoaster ride of musical insanity, mesmerizing rap bars [and] catchy pop tracks that you may not want to like, but end up singing anyway." Popdust awarded the set a three-and-a-half (out of four) star review, commenting that its "monstrous beats and [Nicki's] convincing delivery leave little room for rebuttal." Giving it a B+, Newsday says, "The first half of Roman Reloaded is the Nicki we've come to love. The pride of Jamaica, Queens, is brash and in your face, messing with gender roles and delivering all sorts of zingers. In first-rate hip-hop like 'I Am Your Leader,' where she holds her own with Rick Ross and Cam'ron, and 'Champion,' where she takes on Nas and Young Jeezy, Minaj cements her rep as hip-hop's brightest new star." The news mag even goes so far as to say that Minaj "has her moments" on the pop side. That's just about the biggest compliment we would find regarding Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded's controversial second half. 20. By Sowmya Krishnamurthy Mary J. Blige is peddling crispy chicken for Burger King and getting a lot of heat for it. Yesterday, the Queen of hip-hop soul was featured in a new ad for the restaurant’s revamped menu in which she sings the praises of the Crispy Chicken Snack Wrap. Standing atop a table, the diva belts out—to the tune of her song “Don’t Mind”-- the ingredients, “Crispy chicken, fresh lettuce, three cheeses, ranch dressing, wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla," but after public outcry the ad has disappeared from Burger King's YouTube channel. The new spot sparked more than its share of online backlash as most fans deemed it selling out and stereotypical and were shocked that Mary would lend her name (and voice) to a sandwich. Fans took to Twiter to share sentiments like, “Just watched @maryjblige singing about chicken in a Burger King ad, and stared the blankest stare of my life” and “Oh @Maryjblige how I LOVE thee..but im not sure about this Burger King ad.” Hip-hop branding expert and CEO of Translation, Steve Stoute, who has worked with Blige closely on successful endorsement deals like Carol’s Daughter beauty products, shared his disdain. Today he tweeted, “The issue is the burger king commercial is thT these agencies visit culture and then do work that is so in authentic it's embarrassing.” Upon last check, Burger King had removed the video from its YouTube hub. Rumors have surfaced that Blige received $2 million for the ad. Other celebrities also promoting the burger house's new menu include soccer stud David Beckham, actress Selma Hayek and late night funny man Jay Leno. Of course, Harry and Lloyd didn't really mean to travel to Afghanistan, so they set on a roadtrip to make their return flight and avoid starting World War III without even knowing it." » Marvin Van Buren: "Riffing on that, in my version of the sequel, Harry and Lloyd accidentally confront a Nobel Prize winning terrorist that plans to steal weapon codes. The conflict begins when Lloyd (still at his taxi job) finds an iPhone filled with machine language left by a mysterious man. The key villain should be played by William Defoe or Christoph Waltz." 22. By Rob Markman T.I.'s wife Tameka 'Tiny' Cottle could probably confirm that life is good as Tip's lady, but other ladies get a taste on his new single "Love This Life", which was released on iTunes this week. The new track serves as the lead single from the Atlanta rapper's Trouble Man album, which is due this summer. When T.I. began his career with 2001's I'm Serious, he focused the bulk of his catalog on the trap, where he hustled and built a name in the street for himself. Tip has since evolved musically and even stars in a reality show that centers on his family life — then, of course, there are his highly publicized trips to prison. Still, T.I. is a pretty good catch, and on "Love This Life," he aims to prove it. "Cavalli dress and high heels/ And drop-tops on hot wheels/ We live how we wanna live 'cause we got mill's/ Them other n---as barely buy a hot meal," T.I. spits to his significant other. The ATLien even downplays the need for a prenup, boasting, "You nut up, take half/ I'ma make it right back." The "24's" rapper harmonizes on the song's hook. It's not exactly a Trey Songz-quality performance, but T.I. does hold a tune. Tip's latest performance is reminiscent of his delivery on his 2008 single "Whatever You Like," but much darker. "You know, you love/ Bitch, you know you love this life/ Don't nobody do you like me," he sings. In a January interview with MTV News, the Grand Hustle CEO talked about the theme for Trouble Man: "I'm talking like gutter, gangsta, intellectual ignorance, hardcore stadium sh--, but at the same time, we got those over-the-top crossover records as well, big features and whatnot that we plan on putting into play." We're guessing this is one of those "over-the-top crossover records." View the full article

By Marvin Van Buren Nick Cannon stepped down from his morning radio show on 92.3 as a result of his health issues and now the entertainment mogul is shedding light on his situation in a new video documentary series titled “NCredible Health Hustle” which aired on Monday (April 2). Cannon was hospitalized on January 4, 2012 after falling victim to mild kidney failure and a little over a month later he was hospitalized for blood clots in his lungs. The first episode of “NCredible Health Hustle,” found Cannon’s wife Mariah Carey holding one of their infant twins as he narrated how his life has changed since the health scares. The premiere episode also follows Cannon as he makes another hospital visit, where he is captured on camera connected to an IV discussing symptoms of his edema with his doctor.
