2. "The Notebook" has become a phenomenon since its 2004 release, but who would've ever thought that the tearjerker film could be named as a deciding factor in a divorce? Well, according to R. Kelly's "Soulacoaster" memoir, it was. There are a lot of telltale signs that your marriage might be headed for the cliffs: you stop having fun together, all you do is argue, separate beds, smashed dinnerware. But because he's a singular individual who always does things in ways nobody else could even dream of, R. Kelly has revealed that the catalyst behind his divorce from wife and former back up dancer Andrea Kelly was Ryan Gosling. No, the star of VH1's new reality series "Hollywood Exes" didn't step out on Kelly with the hunky big screen star. In fact, it was Kells himself who decided to pull the plug after an emotional few hours with the "Drive" actor. Pay attention now. According to Kelly's new memoir, the awesomely titled "Soulacoaster, The Diary of Me," the singer says Andrea was never on board with putting her dance career on hold to be a stay-at-home mom. The couple wed in 1996 and had three children together before divorcing in 2009 after 12 years of marriage and weathering the storm of Kelly's trial for child pornography?. But after too many fights to count — including one in which Mrs. Kelly chucked her $50,000 wedding ring into a pond in the couple's backyard — Kelly had an epiphany after watching the 2004 Gosling weeper "The Notebook." The cheesetastic adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel about a young 1940's couple who fall madly in love, only to be torn apart by her disapproving parents. Despite her engagement to another man, their true love prevails and, well, we don't wan to spoil it, but let's say tears will be shed. Just ask Kelly, who writes that the story of true love waiting got him so emotional that, "as the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move. I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. 'The Notebook' was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together. But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day -- when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses -- that had come and gone ... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back." View the full article

Back in June, the first image of James Franco as the titular character hit the web, but the character is relegated to a barely visible balloon passenger here. Instead, the focus seems to be on the more on recognizable imagery from the 1939 "The Wizard of Oz," including the blustery tornado and the yellow brick road. The glittering Land of Oz off in the distance and the Wizard's hot air balloon sailing in are a few spots of bright color in an otherwise pretty dark palette. See the full poster after the jump! Disney's official plot summary explains that Franco plays ethically questionable circus man Oscar Diggs, who is whisked from Kansas to the Land of Oz where he meets three witches who are skeptical of the newcomer. Dealing with the issues of good and evil in this new place, Diggs undergoes personal changes in the process of becoming the one later known as the Wizard of Oz. 5. By Gil Kaufman Frank Ocean used his Tumblr account to discuss his sexuality with fans this week, opening up about a previous relationship with a man. And while the decision certainly couldn't have been an easy one to make, the talented singer/songwriter has supporters in his corner. His Odd Future cohort Tyler, The Creator admits that he's proud of Ocean, while Russell Simmons contends that it's a defining moment for hip-hop. One of the first to back Ocean up was Odd Future major domo Tyler, the Creator, who offered support in his own unique, irreverent way. "My big brother finally f---ing did that," tweeted Tyler on Wednesday. "Proud of that n---a cause I know that sh-- is difficult or whatever. Anyway. I'm a toilet." Def Jam Records co-founder Russell Simmons also hailed the brave action by Ocean to discuss his same-sex first love in light of the history of latent homophobia in hip-hop. In a post entitled "The Courage of Frank Ocean Just Changed the Game!" Simmons wrote, "Today is a big day for hip-hop. It is a day that will define who we really are. How compassionate will we be? How loving can we be? How inclusive are we? I am profoundly moved by the courage and honesty of Frank Ocean. Your decision to go public about your sexual orientation gives hope and light to so many young people still living in fear. These types of secrets should not matter anymore, but we know they do." Calling Ocean's talent's "undeniable" and "enormous" and his bravery "incredible," Simmons hoped that the singer's actions will, "uplift our consciousness and allow us to become better people. Every single one of us is born with peace and tranquility in our heart. Frank just found his." Ocean's mother, Katonya Breaux Riley, tweeted her pride in her "brave and honest" son, writing, "I wish more people in the world could be brave enough to be who they really are ... Thank you to all who have shown love and support. My son is the most incredible human I know. Honest, true and loving. We appreciate you!" She also re-tweeted a note from Solange Knowles, who said, "I salute you, brave soul. Independence day." In his Tumblr essay, Ocean opened up about his first love, a young man he spent a handful of summers with beginning at age 19. "Whoever you are, wherever you are ... I'm starting to think we're a lot alike," he began. "Human beings spinning on blackness. All wanting to be seen, touched, paid attention to." The lengthy letter, titled "thank you's," details a relationship Ocean had with a man, who it turns out had a girlfriend just as Frank had had, and the tumultuous emotions that followed. "He wouldn't tell me the truth about his feelings for me for another 3 years," Ocean continues before adding, "I couldn't imagine keeping up my life without him." Because the emotive Ocean only sang overtly about heterosexual relationships, his sexuality had never come into question, until earlier this week when rumors about his possible bisexuality began to circulate after a hip-hop site referenced lyrics from Ocean's upcoming album, Channel Orange. Then, a BBC 1 Xtra writer posted an early review of the album on her personal blog, noting that on the songs "Bad Religion," "Pink Matter" and "Forrest Gump," the singer used pronouns like "him" instead of "her." The Los Angeles Times posted a story speculating about whether Ocean's honesty about his sexuality could push the musical boundaries of hip-hop on the eve of the release of his major-label debut. "The straightforward letter ... is undoubtedly the glass ceiling moment for music," writer Gerrick D. Kennedy predicted. "Especially black music, which has long been in desperate need of a voice like Ocean's to break the layers of homophobia. There are plenty of reasons this moment has so much weight. Too many for any single article to explore ... Ocean has never talked at length about his personal life, leaving his music and its often-complex narratives to drive the conversation. But in a culture where the gossip increasingly and frustratingly outweighs the music, Ocean's casual and candid approach to addressing his personal life, and revealing his personal truth of having loved a man, will be seen as groundbreaking." On the heels of CNN anchor Anderson Cooper's coming out of the closet, Kennedy noted that Ocean's reveal was not done in a magazine cover story, through anonymous sources or with a public relations-orchestrated push. In fact, his letter never once uses the terms "gay" or "bisexual." "Ocean told his story on his terms and in his own words, something virtually unheard of in hip-hop and R&B -- genres he has already pushed forward artistically with his work, and could push further." 11. By Rob Markman Slaughterhouse has been putting the finishing touches on their second LP Welcome to: Our House, which finally has a confirmed release date of August 28. Their Shady Records boss, Eminem, has helped them to mix the entire project, and Royce da 5'9", Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I give him special thanks for that. "It's finally here. We dealt with a couple of pushbacks, we dealt with being creative the whole way through, putting new music out there. Now, we're here," Joe Budden told MTV News on Sunday evening on the BET Awards red carpet in Los Angeles. "August 28, we're going to make it do what it do. Hopefully, the fans are just as excited about the release as we are, and we can't wait." The group officially formed in late 2008, and the following year, they independently released their self-titled debut. Because each of the four members was a noted soloist with separate deals and obligations to deal with, they recorded their first album together in less than a week. The result was a critically acclaimed, rap fan's lyrical dream. Each track was packed with intricate flows and an accelerated word play. The fact that SH has had more time to work on Welcome to: Our House is very encouraging for the group. The album's first single, "Hammer Dance," is an aggressive street tune, while the Cee Lo Green-assisted "My Life" is a rags-to-riches track that should earn the rap quad some much-deserved radio play. "There are records where those core Slaughterhouse fans will get their 'Ohs and ahs,' like, 'OK, the pen is pushing,' " Joell Ortiz told us during a May set visit to the group's "My Life" video. "It's themed, but we take you on a ride through this album. Y'all gonna enjoy it." Now, a few months later on the BET red carpet, and Ortiz is even more excited. "We really got busy this time around, man. The first album, we had six days to do it, this time around we're with a major label, Shady Records," he said. "Shout to Eminem: He mixed the entire record. This album is going to be incredible." View the full article
  12. This week anti-Piracy group BREIN celebrated a victory against The Pirate Bay. Now 90% of the Dutch Internet users can no longer access the BitTorrent site directly, the site’s Alexa traffic rank in the Netherlands tanked. The group conveniently forgot to mention that many people now use proxy sites to access the site, and didn’t mention the uptick that can be noticed at other BitTorrent sites. It was a win for Hollywood, they simply argued. However, XS4All, one of the Dutch providers that was sued by BREIN, has now burst this bubble. According to the ISP there is no sign that their subscribers are changing their downloading habits, on the contrary. “Since the Pirate Back blocking lawsuit began, BitTorrent traffic has not been reduced, it increased instead,” XS4All’s Niels Huijbregts states. The ISP looked at the traffic on its network and found that over the past year traffic increased on ports that are commonly used for BitTorrent. XS4all claims that all the news about the blockade may be one of the reasons for this increase. “I think that the increase is a result of all the media attention for the lawsuit and the blockade. Perhaps people who until then had never downloaded thought ‘I hear so much about downloading music and movies, let me try it!’.” “What I want to say to BREIN is this: your repressive policy does not work. You can block access to the Pirate Bay, but that clearly doesn’t result in the desired effect on the download behavior of the Dutch.” Instead of demanding more blockades and censorship, XS4All advises the entertainment industry to focus their energy on the positive. In other words, give consumers what they want instead of beating them into submission. “Put all that money and all that time and effort into something that has an effect. Invest in great new things. And do something about your image,” Huijbregts says. “With your witchhunt you’ve declared war on the biggest film and music fans. The people who could be your biggest customers hate the entire entertainment industry because of all the lawsuits and lobbying activities,” he adds. The ISP claims that the solution to piracy is not censorship, but innovation, and XS4All suggests that the entertainment industry should build their own version of The Pirate Bay. “Build a legal version of the Pirate Bay, where everyone can find and download content. Because that’s what people want: access to everything, anytime, anywhere. That is the reality of the Internet, so that’s what people expect. And unfortunately there are hardly any legal models to meet that expectation,” Huijbregts concludes. A Pirate Bay admin told TorrentFreak that the news about the traffic increase was to be expected. “We are not the only torrent site around, and with their high-profile blocking lawsuits they introduced tens of thousands of new users to BitTorrent,” TorrentFreak was told. “With very few exceptions, all the content that can be found on The Pirate Bay is available on hundreds of other sites.” Besides the Netherlands, The Pirate Bay is also being blocked by all of the major UK ISPs. Whether they have noticed a similar uptick in BitTorrent traffic recently remains the question, but it wouldn’t come as a surprise. Source: ISP: BitTorrent Traffic Increased After Pirate Bay Blockade View the full article

  20. By Rob Markman BBQs, fireworks and patriotic-themed rap videos, if there is a better way to celebrate the 4th of July, RapFix hasn’t figured it out yet. Today, to celebrate Independence Day Mac Miller decided to drop his “America” video with Casey Veggies and Joey Bada$$. The collaborative track which appears on Miller’s Macadelic mixtape unites the three MCs over a jazzy Hannibal King track. Mike Waxx and Mike Carson directed the video which was shot on April 25 in New York City, the same day that Mac sold out the Roseland Ballroom. In the clip Miller, Veggies and Joey all mug for the camera with American flags draped over their backs, while post-production animation effects add a unique flair to it all. The video like, the mixtape which it was placed on continues to chronicle Miller’s growth as an artist. "It's like the story of someone who is growing up, trying to figure out who he is and trying to figure out what he's supposed to do in the world and how he's gonna change it," Mac told Mixtape Daily of his Macadelic tape back in March. "I think it's a great piece because it's a great part of my career, it's a great time right now and I feel like I been making mixtapes for five years, so this one is very special to me. "I was trying to make a complete project, but on this project, all I wanted to do is just say what was on my mind," he continued. What do you think of Mac Miller’s “America” video? 22. Frank Ocean used his Tumblr account to introduce the world to his critically acclaimed Nostalgia Ultra album, and this week the Odd Future singer used it discuss his sexuality, sharing details of a relationship he had with a man when he was younger. In a heartfelt letter posted Wednesday morning (July 4), he opens up about his "first love," a young man he spent a handful of summers with beginning at age 19. The candid post from the Odd Future singer quickly began making the rounds on the Net. "Whoever you are, wherever you are..I'm starting to think we're a lot alike," the "Novacane" singer begins. "Human beings spinning on blackness. All wanting to be seen, touched, paid attention to." The lengthy letter, titled "thank you's" details a relationship Ocean had with a man, who it turns out had a girlfriend just as Frank had had, and the tumultuous emotions that followed. "He wouldn't tell me the truth about his feelings for me for another 3 years," Ocean continues before adding, "I couldn't imagine keeping up my life without him." The Def Jam artist also chronicles how he used music as catharsis: "I wrote to keep myself busy and sane. I wanted to create world that were rosier than mine." He ends by revealing that he has shared his story with some people close to him, including his mother. And although he admits to being unsure what happens next, he says he finally feels emancipated from his past: "I feel like a free man. If I listen closely.. I can hear the sky falling too." In a message Frank posted to his Tumblr not long before the "thank you's," the singer hints at the note to come. Titling it "BasedGod Was Right," a reference to rapper Lil B (a straight MC who provocatively dubbed his album I'm Gay.), Frank writes "we're all a bunch of golden million dollar babies. my hope is that the babies born these days will inherit less of the bullsh-- than we did. anyhow, what i'm about to post is for anyone who cares to read. it was intended to fill the thank you's section in my album credits, but with all the rumors going round.. i figured it'd be good to clarify.." Rumors that Frank was bisexual began to circulate this week after a post went up on the blog This Is Max. The blog referenced lyrics from Frank's upcoming album, Channel Orange, in claiming that the singer had a penchant for both men and women (It has since been removed.) Ocean first broke through at the top of 2011 with the release of his free Internet album Nostalgia, Ultra. The LP was marked by its honest and soul-baring songwriting, including and tragic love songs like "Novacane," "Swim Good" and the Eagles-remake "American Wedding," and quickly made Frank a breakout star in the rambunctious Odd Future crew. Jay-Z, Kanye West and Beyoncé sought out his pen, and by the end of last year, Ocean had appeared on Watch the Throne and written "I Miss You" for Bey's 4 album. Because the emotive Ocean only sang overtly about heterosexual relationships, his sexuality had never come into question. That is, until a BBC 1 Xtra writer posted an early review of Channel Orange on her personal blog a few days ago, noting that on the songs "Bad Religion," "Pink Matter" and "Forrest Gump," the singer used pronouns like "him" instead of "her." 23. 50 Cent planned to drop his next official album on July 3, but that project 5 (Murder By Numbers), has now been pegged as a free LP, while Fif's official release Street King Immortal will arrive in November, with or without support from his label Interscope Records. Listen to a preview of "You Will Never Take My Crown" from 5 after the jump. "My official Interscope album is called STREET KING IMMORTAL due out in nov," the G-Unit CEO, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, tweeted early Tuesday. 5 (Murder By Numbers), which was widely believed to be his fifth official album, will now be offered to fans on Friday for free — as what he called an "appetizer" — instead of being released for sale as planned. MTV News has obtained an exclusive snippet from one of the songs off 5 (Murder By Numbers — a reggae-tinged, New York-flavored number called "You Will Never Take My Crown." "Gram after gram, time after time, I got the grind/ I can't help it, I got the shine," he raps on the drum-heavy track. Claiming that he was receiving little marketing or support from Interscope, 50 recently lashed out at his label and the industry, saying it will be the last in his turbulent deal with the label. "I said I was gonna put a record out that was completely up to album standard, and I'm gonna do that. I worked on this album for a long time," he said in a June interview with Philadelphia's Hot 107.9 radio station. "It's been three years." Yeah," he says) but dodged any responsibility for the alleged bun in the oven. The episode ended with Mimi and Joseline sitting down and exchanging insults. Stevie walked in and the argument turned into a heated free-for-all. After Mimi walked off, Stevie and Joseline had a verbal throw down of their own that included the producer threatening to send Joseline "back to the strip club." The former exotic dancer accused Stevie of being controlling and blackmailing her with her past. "I gave you another life," said Stevie to which she responded, "I'm not going back!" Stevie, clearly agitated, ended the conversation succinctly: "Watch how you speak to me, Joseline. You look nice by the way."
