Meek Mill Avoids Jail Time, Sentenced to House Arrest After Violating Probation

After much deliberation, Meek Mill is not headed back to jail for violating his probation. Today, a Philadelphia judge sentenced Meek, whose legal name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, to house arrest for a minimum of 90 days, starting March 1. He'll wear an ankle monitor and will be prevented from working (which includes releasing new music), though he can do charity work during that time. He will also be on probation for the next six years. The news was reported by WHYY's Bobby Allyn and TMZ.

After 90 days, the judge will consider whether he will remain under house arrest.

Nicki Minaj, who is Meek's girlfriend, was present in the courtroom today.

In December, the judge ruled that Meek had violated his probation due to various unauthorized trips outside of the Philadelphia area. During that hearing, Meek told the judge, "I'm not a gangsta. I'm not a criminal. I have my queen, Nicki now. I'm trying to do better and feel like I can be the best rapper out there."

Williams was on probation due to a 2009 drug and gun conviction. In 2014, he served five months in jail for violating his probation.
