Bikini Kill Share Unreleased Track "Ocean Song"

Bikini Kill's 1991 demo tape Revolution Girl Style Now is getting reissued on September 22 via Bikini Kill Records. It comes with some unreleased tracks. After sharing "Playground", check out "Ocean Song" via The New York Times.

The Times also interviewed Kathleen Hanna about the reissue. She said that although she was hesitant to revisit the old material, â€œI was just laughing the whole way through."

“To hear this material kind of shows the link that we had to the Northwest and to the music scene there; I really love that, because I feel like a lot of times, that gets lost,” Hanna says. “It’s kind of written about like, ‘these freak feminist anomalies who sprung up out of nowhere.’ We actually were friends with people in so-called grunge bands, even though nobody called themselves grunge bands.”

Hanna said that "Ocean Song" was inspired by stories she heard while she worked at SafePlace, a shelter for survivors of sexual abuse and domestic violence in Olympia, Washington. Read the full interview here.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
