During Wednesday's (July 24) episode of "RapFix Live," we announced the 2013 MTV Jams Fab 5 list, which includes rising stars Chance the Rapper, August Alsina, Gunplay, Schoolboy Q and Travi$ Scott. Here on RapFix, we'll be spotlighting each artist one-by-one, beginning with New Orleans native and Def Jam singnee August Alsina.

Learn a bit more about August in the video above and in case you're wondering what the hell those stats are next to our Fab 5 artists--besides just looking awesome--here's a little breakdown:

As a way to quantify just what it is that makes each artist unique, we're incorporating a cool and innovative system called RapMETRICS. Because Fab 5 artists might be new to the game or new to you, the metrics are way to help you get familiar with his/her individual style.

So a stat like "Hook %" is simply the average use of hook (over verse) the artist incorporates into his/her songs.

"Word Uniqueness" reflects the variety of words used and "Syllables Per Word" is the average number of…I think you're getting the picture. Enjoy and feel free to hit is with you comments below.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
      You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention. 
      But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
