The people have spoken, and they want their "Resident Evil." In an interview with "The Star," director Paul W.S. Anderson said he'd be making the sixth installment in the slow-mo-iest movie series ever this fall. "I think the undead genre really plays to primal human fears," Anderson said regarding the popularity of zombies since his first "Resident Evil" film. "That kind of stuff never goes out of fashion. The themes of a zombie story are always good; they make for good filmmaking."

Right now the film is planned for a September 12, 2014 release. We know that the wizards from the Mr. X visual effects house will be on board for more creepy VFX magic. "Resident Evil: Retribution" was the fifth film in the canon and saw Alice (Milla Jovovich) trying to escape an underwater base and her captors, the nefarious Umbrella Corporation.

Rick Moranis Talks 'Ghostbusters 3'
Rick Moranis of "Ghostbusters" fame has been making the press rounds for his new album. Yeah, that's right. He's a Grammy-nominated recording artist and not just the geeky character who wanted to make out with Sigourney Weaver in Ivan Reitman's 1984 film. Moranis played Louis Tully in the first two "Ghostbusters" films and spoke to Empire about the third movie, the development of which has been all over the map.

"I haven't talked to Danny [Aykroyd] about it," Moranis told the magazine. "Somebody he's associated with called me, and I said, 'I wouldn't not do it, but it's got to be good.' You know, I'm not interested in doing anything I've already done, and I thought the second one was a disappointment. But I guess I'm interested in where that guy is now. I sort of see him as being Bernie Madoff's cellmate in jail. Both of them being so orderly that they race to get up and make their beds." The fate of a third movie is up to the movie gods for now, but it's great to hear from Moranis. The Sci-Fi 'Frankenstein' Film Will Cast a Creature Soon
Remember that upcoming sci-fi adaptation of the classic "Frankenstein" story that Max Landis ("Chronicle") wrote and Paul McGuigan ("Lucky Number Slevin," "Push") is directing, with Daniel Radcliffe playing the role of hunchback assistant, Igor? The studio is ready to cast its lead, the creature known as the modern Prometheus: Frankenstein's monster. According to Deadline, Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire") and Toby Kebbel ("RocknRolla") are the strongest possibilities right now. Fox hopes to have casting sorted out by next week, so stay tuned for more. We could certainly see Huston playing the monster since he's had a little practice wearing a facial prosthetic for the HBO series. He plays disfigured Army vet Richard Harrow. Who else would you add to the list of acting potentials?

Prank Chucky Video Slays
Check out this prank video from Brazilian television. The new film in the killer doll series can't get here soon enough. "Curse of Chucky" brings serial killer Charles Lee Ray back to the big screen to settle some unfinished business. Brad Dourif will reprise his role as the voice of the deadly doll with a score to settle. The film opens on September 24.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
