'Battlestar Galactica' Star Katee Sackhoff Joins Female 'Expendables'

The casting for the [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/08/20/female-expendables/"]female version of "The Expendables"[/url] is off to a great start.

"Battlestar Galactica" alum [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/262838/personmain.jhtml"]Katee Sackhoff[/url] has joined [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/09/25/gina-carano-female-expendables/"]Gina Carano[/url] in the film, [url="http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118060369.html"][i]Variety[/i][/url] reports. The two women are just the first of likely a large ensemble that will grace a big screen near us in the next few years, and producer Adi Shankar apparently thinks bringing Sackhoff on board was a given.

"If you spend five minutes with Katee it becomes blatantly obvious that she would pwn (sic) most male action stars," he told [i]Variety[/i].



It's true: though she started off as a model, Sackoff quickly made a name for herself as the tough-as-nails Starbuck in "Battlestar Galactica." She since starred as Dana Walsh in the 2010 season of "24" and has [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/01/10/battlestar-galactica-actress-joins-new-riddick/"]joined Vin Diesel[/url] in the upcoming "Chronicles of Riddick" movie, neither of which are roles for the faint of heart.

With these two locked down, it's clear that Shankar is looking for a more up-and-coming cast to compliment the aging stars of "The Expendables." But we don't think he should rule out veteran female action stars just yet. A female version of "The Expendables" wouldn't be complete without Sigourney Weaver, Jamie Lee Curtis or Lucy Lawless, so hopefully they don't get skipped over for the sake a younger group of women.

This is a project Shankar is obviously excited about, a claim proven by the fact he made a similarly enthusiastic statement when it was announced that Garano would join the movie.

"I don't know how I'm supposed to make a movie that is supposed to be the female version of 'The Expendables' without Gina Carano in it," he said. "It would be like making Twix without caramel or Jamba Juice without jamba."
