After 'Dark Knight' Shooting, Ice T Defends Right To Carry Guns

Considering that he's an original gangster rapper and has also played a cop on "Law & Order: SVU" for the last 12 years, Ice T might know a thing or two about guns. When asked for his thoughts on the tragic shooting at a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" in Aurora, CO last Friday, the rap veteran staunchly defended American rights to carry firearms.

When asked about his thoughts on gun control by Channel 4 London, Ice used the oft-used defense that bearing arms is a right that's absolutely necessary because of the potential for tyranny by police or the military. "It's legal in the United States," said the rapper and actor. "The right to bear arms is because that's the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It's to protect yourself from police."

Ice went on to say that if someone wants to kill people they will do it anyway, with or without a gun. "They don't need a gun to do it," he continued. "You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time."

The interview set-off something of a Twitter controversy with gun control advocates trying to challenge his viewpoint. Ice doubled-down on his comments, though. Taking to his personal account, he posted: "If you go into the jungle… Will you NOT get eaten because you're a vegan??"
