Director Peter Jackson has shared some exciting news about the status of his big-screen adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit."

On his Facebook page, Jackson posted a photo of himself on-set and wrote:

"We made it! Shoot day 266 and the end of principal photography on The Hobbit. Thanks to our fantastic cast and crew for getting us this far, and to all of you for your support! Next stop, the cutting room. Oh, and Comic Con!
Cheers, Peter J"

Jackson told MTV News back in January that around July both installments would have finished shooting, so things are looking right on schedule for the highly-anticipated project.

With new photos from "The Hobbit" published recently and Comic-Con next week, it's certainly an exciting time for Middle-earth fans. We are counting down the days to be reunited with the familiar faces from Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy who will be returning and to get a little more familiar with Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" is set to open on December 14, followed by a year of patient (though probably more like impatient) waiting until "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" opens on December 13, 2013.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
