'Ghostbusters 3' Scares Up New Writers

Who ya gonna call when "Ghostbusters III" is stuck in development? The callback here is apparently "New writers!"

[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/70616/personmain.jhtml"]Dan Aykroyd[/url] was quoted by [url="%20http://www.wivb.com/dpp/news/local/aykroyd-talks-ghostbusters-at-wny-event%20"]WIVB[/url] about the new development while at a promotional event for his Crystal Head Vodka.

"We've got a new writing staff working on it now," Aykroyd said. "It's got to be prefect. That's the whole thing. There's no point in doing it unless it's perfect. So that's what we're up to now."



"Ghostbusters III" has faced numerous ups and downs in its lengthy development process. [url="%20http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2010/03/18/ivan-reitman-and-sony-not-seeing-eye-to-eye-on-ghostbusters-3/"]Way back in 2010[/url] when MTV reported that writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg were working on the script, there was some alleged tension between director [url="%20http://moviesblog.mtv.com/tag/ivan-reitman%20"] Ivan Reitman[/url] and Sony. At this point, the film was also planning on being out in 2011. Clearly that did not happen.

Casting has also been a drawn out topic of speculation, particular whether original "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II" star [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/91861/personmain.jhtml"]Bill Murray[/url] would return for a third go-around. In March, [url="%20http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/03/01/bill-murray-wont-do-ghostbusters-3-dan-aykroyd-confirms/"]Akroyd stated[/url] that Bill Murray would not be returning for the third installment. Then just a few weeks ago, [url="%20http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/06/14/bill-murray-ghostbusters-3-update/#more-77711%20"]Murray spoke[/url] on "The Late Show with David Letterman" about the need for the project to have a high-quality script like the original.

Aykroyd didn't name any names about who makes up this new writing staff, but a Crystal Head Vodka cheers to these new writers—here's to hoping that they can help give this long-talked-about project the push it needs to get off the ground once and for all.
