Javier Bardem Says 'Skyfall' Character 'More Than A Villain'

During MTV News's [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/04/10/skyfall-james-bond-set-visit/"]recent visit[/url] to the set of "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/470751/moviemain.jhtml"]Skyfall[/url]," main baddie [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/3460/personmain.jhtml"]Javier Bardem[/url] teased that his character, Silva, will give James Bond a run for his money in the upcoming movie, adding that he will be much more than just a cut-and-dry villain.

"I see them more than villains. I see them like people with some circumstances behind them make them act and react the way they do," Bardem explained. "It's not only a sign you have to put on a character like, 'This is a villain.' This is a man who has some trouble going on and he has to cope with that."

Bardem is no stranger to playing villainous roles. The Spanish actor rose to critical acclaim—and won an Academy Award—for his performance in 2007's "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/298136/moviemain.jhtml"]No Country For Old Men[/url]." But Bardem said that he felt like his role of Silva in "Skyfall" is something that he hasn't portrayed before.



"In these times, there is nothing that we haven't seen before. But I guess it's a different type of person than I've played before. Hopefully. You never know. That's what I pretend to think, but maybe that's not what I achieved as an actor" he said. "When I read it, I see different images that comes to my mind in order to play it. It's fun for me to do that because I haven’t done it before."

Some [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/04/06/javier-bardem-bond-skyfall/"]recent set photos[/url] tease that there could be a physical transformation occurring as well, but Bardem wouldn't confirm or deny whether he's gone blonde for the latest Bond movie. "I'm not allowed to say," Bardem said with a laugh. "Everything is secret."

"Skyfall" is due in theaters November 9, and the cast and crew are still hard at work shooting the flick. Bardem said he's been having a great time filming with his esteemed peers.

"It's great. It's a great honor to belong to the same set with Judi Dench, Daniel, Albert Finney, Ralph Fiennes. It's pretty spectacular," he said.
