Quentin Taratino's "Django Unchained" has to be one of our most anticipated movies of the year based on the concept and cast alone.

If you haven't heard yet, Jamie Foxx plays the titular Django, an escaped slave who is taken under the wing of a German bounty hunter named Dr. King Schultz, played by Christoph Waltz. Schultz and Django set out to free the former slave's wife from an evil plantation owner played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

Now, pictures from the set provide our first look at any of the actors in costume. In the photo, Waltz is decked out in full western regalia as he crosses the street.

From the looks of the set photo, Dr. King Schultz is a far cry the role that won Waltz an Oscar under Tarantino's direction, Col. Hans Landa in "Inglourious Basterds," but having read the script, we can tell you that the good doctor is memorable for all the same reasons and the perfect fit for Waltz.

The photo also confirms that after decades of toying with the genre, Tarantino is finally giving us his first true western—well, close to one at least. Tarantino describes "Django Unchained" as a southern, a movie that takes the look and tropes of the western and transports the action to places like Mississippi and Alabama.

Waltz's get-up for Dr. King Schultz certainly reinforces that idea with his clothes coming straight out of a western with a little southern gentlemanly flair.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
