Earl’s home! The exiled member of Odd Future has returned from a Samoa military school and has already released new music onto the Internet.

“Home,” was posted to Earl Sweatshirt’s Terttle Fer Webpage at 11 p.m. ET. Before he released the song, the celebrated OFWGKTA member took to Twitter to hype things up early Wednesday simply writing: “home.” as his first message.

Next Earl began to tease the new track. “n---a need followers. give me 50,000 and i'll release this shit for everybody,” he tweeted before sending out another message with a YouTube link to a snippet of the need song.

Of course the young lyricist got a hand from his OF cohorts when Tyler, the Creator pitched in. “Oh. Thebe Has....I Mean Earl Has A Twitter. @earlxsweat,” the “Yonkers” MC tweeted to help get his homey more followers.

The Cali music collective began to breakout in 2009 thanks to the popularity of Tyler’s free Internet album Bastard and then Earl’s self-titled tape the next year. The lyrically dense Earl Sweatshirt quickly became one of the group’s most popular members, but it would be later reported that Earl, who’s real name is Thebe Kgosisile, was sent away to an all-boys school in Samoa. Complex Magazine broke the news and received backlash from Tyler, who had hoped to keep the whereabouts of his friend a private matter.

Many speculated whether Earl Sweatshirt would even be interested in rap when he finally did return home, but he is clearly back to work. On “Home” he starts out spitting, “Self-loathing narcissist/ Spittin’ crowbars at the back window of cars and sh--t.”

Earl continues to spew free-associative bars with no interuppting hook, going on for well over a minute-and-a-half. At the end of the song the outcasted MC makes things official when he ad-libs: “Annnnd I’mmmmmm back. Bye.”

Welcome home!

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
