Harrison Ford Not In Talks To Star In 'Blade Runner'

Fans of the sci-fi classic "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/3619/moviemain.jhtml"]Blade Runner[/url]" may have gotten their hopes up over the weekend after [url="http://twitchfilm.com/news/2012/02/breaking-harrison-ford-in-early-talks-for-ridley-scotts-new-blade-runner.php"]Twitch[/url] reported that [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/21368/personmain.jhtml"]Harrison Ford[/url], the star of the original, was [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/02/06/harrison-ford-up-for-blade-runner-sequel/"]in early talks[/url] to return for director [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/person/97929/personmain.jhtml"]Ridley Scott[/url]'s follow-up.

Unfortunately, Twitch's scoop didn't pass the Voight-Kampff test. [url="http://www.deadline.com/2012/02/blade-runner-makers-at-alcon-say-harrison-ford-not-in-talks-to-star/"]Deadline is now reporting[/url] that Alcon, the company producing Scott's proposed return to the world of replicants, has completely denied any rumors surrounding negotiations with Ford.

Calling the rumor "patently false," Alcon co-head Andrew Kosove reiterated what had been previously stated about the film, stating "What Ridley does in '[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/433741/moviemain.jhtml"]Prometheus[/url]' is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie."

Alcon stands by their original intention to make the next "Blade Runner" movie as a "total reinvention" of the series, while maintaining connections to the original film. Most took this as a sign that Ford would not return, and Kosove previously said as much, explaining "In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no."

As for whether Kosove thought Ford could, in theory, come back, he left it open to development. "In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes, he could," Kosove said. "But I think it is quite unlikely."

It's currently unclear when Scott will direct his return to "Blade Runner." [url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2012/02/01/ridley-scott-cormac-mccarthy-the-counselor/"]Recent reports[/url] have pegged Cormac McCarthy's "The Counselor" as a likely next project.
