Super producer Swizz Beatz is in hot water with Universal Music Group over the promotion of his website Megaupload.com, according to reports that resurfaced today. As CEO of the online storage and file-sharing site, Beatz asked buddies Diddy, Kanye and Will.i.am to spread the buzz in a promotional video, the "Megaupload Mega Song," that the artists' label Universal Music Group allegedly did not approve. UMG issued a “take-down notice” late last year and Megaupload has responded with a counter lawsuit against the label.

Kanye West, Chris Brown Promote Megaupload In Music Video

The 4-minute clip features a slew of familiar faces singing the praises of the popular website, including Kanye West, Will.i.am, Diddy, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Snopp Dogg, Lil’ Jon, Kim Kardashian, Mary J Blige, Serena Williams and The Game.

In other internet drama, a myriad of sites have gone black today to raise awareness against the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and its sister legislation the Protect Intellectual Property Act (PIPA). Both laws are designed prevent illegal downloading and copyright infringements by targeting websites that sell pirated movies, music and other products. Most notably, Wikipedia.com SOPA will be put to a vote on Jan. 24, 2012 in the Senate. Google is one of the largest organizations showing their support today, by blacking out the infamous Google doodle on their homepage.

The White House has formally declared that it will not support SOPA as written. In an official statement , the administration states: "While we believe that online piracy by foreign websites is a serious problem that requires a serious legislative response, we will not support legislation that reduces freedom of expression, increases cybersecurity risk, or undermines the dynamic, innovative global Internet."
