'Prometheus' Poster Promises Mystery, 'John Carter' Promises Action

The first two "Alien" movies are sci-fi classics, so it's not surprising that we all wanted [url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/433741/moviemain.jhtml"]Ridley Scott's "Prometheus"[/url] to be related in some way. Indeed, it is -- there are "[url="http://moviesblog.mtv.com/2011/12/01/prometheus-isnt-an-alien-prequel-swears-fox-studio-chief/"]strands of DNA[/url]" floating around in the film that'll come out next summer, but not much else.

That seems okay; based on the first official poster, there will be enough mysterious sci-fi goings on without accounting for the dense "Alien" world. Check out that poster (as well as a new "[url="http://www.mtv.com/movies/movie/430400/moviemain.jhtml"]John Carter[/url]" poster) after the jump!

There's not much to see besides the outline of an explorer laid against a giant head, but it perfectly sets the tone for adventuring in the deepness of space. The cast is sneaky loaded with stars, too -- Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron, just to name a few. We can't wait for next June to see how it all plays out.

On the other hand, the new "John Carter" IMAX poster inhabits one mood: intense. There's Taylor Kitsch chained up in some gladiator pit, running away from two yeti/hippopotamus hybrids with a panicked look on his face. Maybe he's realizing that the chain is too short, or that without the key "of Mars" subtitle, no one knows what this movie's going to be about except for two things: Taylor Kitsch and yeti/hippopotamus hybrids. (All due respect, "John Carter" could be the name of a fictional high school basketball coach who taught his team how to respect itself, or a biopic about the guy who invented eyeglasses. Alas, that's how the marketing game goes!)
