Kevin Smith might have been calling "Hit Somebody" his "hockey movie," but when he chatted with MTV News recently, he was quick to clarify that it's much more than just that.

"Now I understand some people are like, 'Dude, one hockey movie is a tough sell. Two?' I call it a hockey movie in the same way I've been calling 'Red State' a horror movie, and then people see 'Red State' and are like, 'That's not a horror movie.' Well, I don't know what else to call it," he explained. "Trust me though, it ain't a hockey movie. It's about so much more."

It at least had a big enough story that he felt he needed to split what was to be his last movie as a director into his last two movies as a director.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Smith was going to split "Hit Somebody" into two movies. He explained that, since it's his last movie, he wants to make sure it's done right. And if that means he'll make it in two movies, then so be it.

"It just got big. And in a world where I was like, 'This is my last one, I'm going to go out on my terms,'" Smith said. "I was trying to figure out how to reduce the screenplay and shrink it but then I was like, f--k that, that's not going to do good service to the characters, to the story, to what I want to do. So I said, you know what, it's the last one, keep writing. If it becomes two, it becomes two."

Smith plans on releasing the "Hit Somebody" screenplay early to the public so people can see the type of movie he's planning on. He's already talked to some of his regulars, including "Red State's" John Goodman and Kevin Pollack, about coming on board the film, and it even recently cast Michael Angarano as a Russian hockey player. After he's finished the script, Smith said he also plans on shooting Ben Affleck and Matt Damon a call to see if they'd be interested in participating in his final film as well.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
