Lil Wayne Still Plans To Retire By 35

Back in March Young Money honcho Lil Wayne teased that he would retire from his wildly successful music career at the ripe old age of 35, and this month the 29-year-old New Orleans native reiterated his plans to walk away from the business he has been involved in since the age of 11.

Wayne currently graces the November cover of GQ magazine's 'Gods of Rock' issue, which also features megastars Eminem and Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richard. Inside, a candid interview reveals that Lil Wayne’s retirement plans are an act of selflessness and acknowledgment of his accomplishments, rather than the musings of a man simply burned out on the trappings of fame.

When pressed about his plans to retire in six years, Wayne answered, “Basically, I have been doing this for eighteen years. That's reason number one. I have accomplished all that I have set out to accomplish and more. Also, I have a label, and I've only put out two artists [Drake and Nicki Minaj]. I have a lot more work to do, and it'd be selfish to not focus on being the boss and focus on their projects.”

As a devoted dad of four, fatherhood also plays a major role in Wayne's decision to relinquish his hip-hop crown. “But the main reason is my kids, my children. Now, if I thought I'd be selfish to my artists, imagine what I think I would be doing to my kids,” said an introspective Wayne. “I have enough money that they don't have to ever do anything—which, they will do everything, 'cause they ain't getting sh--.”

With his ninth studio album Tha Carter IV comfortably riding high on the charts and sequels to his previous releases Rebirth and I Am Not A Human Being in the works, fans can expect to hear plenty more music from the Young Money general in the years to come.
