Dallas rap veteran D.O.C. made waves in the news recently after a revealing interview with local publication the Dallas Observer detailed the former Ruthless Records rapper’s long climb to rehabilitate his throat injury as a result of a car crash many years ago. D.O.C. also piqued interest from fans speaking of his work alongside producer Dr. Dre on the long-awaited Detox release.

However, it was D.O.C.’s relationship with singer Erykah Badu that seemed to get the most attention in the article. In the report from the Dallas Observer, D.O.C. revealed that he was hoping to film a reality show with Badu, with whom he shares parental duties and their 7-year-old daughter Puma. However, a statement from Badu’s publicist Paul Levatino dimisses the intimate details the D.O.C. shared with the paper.

“Erykah Badu and The D.O.C. share parental responsibilities for their daughter and their relationship as it regards that aim is very good" reads the statement. "However, that is the full extent of their personal involvement and no romantic dynamic exists between the two. Moreover, Erykah has no plans to marry or have any sort of courtship with the D.O.C."

"Ms. Badu has no plans to allow a reality show to be filmed in her private Dallas residence or to include any of her children in the filming" the statement continued. "Ms. Badu has no concrete plans further than a guest appearance in his reality show. The D.O.C.'s comments were either taken out of context, improperly interpreted, or reflective of his now, not-so-secret desires. Whatever the case, Erykah wishes D.O.C. well both spiritually and professionally.”

No further comment from D.O.C.’s camp in regards to this recent statement but the Dallas Observer did express confidence that they reported the story from D.O.C. as dictated.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
