A first for Aciitone as we see the release of our first artist album from Belfast native Jonny "Bubba"Smith. "While the City Sleeps" is a fresh sound that draws on many retro influences. BUBBA's debut solo album delivers a selection of well rounded pieces that showcase the many sides of his producing talents, from sunny strings to bumpin basslines, with deeper, drugged out vocal snips and a squechy splosh of acid, its an album offering a fine selection of summertime bombs...

Jonny 'Bubba' Smyth started out as a kid, making music on a keyboard and drum machine in his bedroom in Belfast in the 90's,trying to emulate the techno and house sounds he was hearing at the underground club nights Sugar Sweet and Shake Ya Brain ran by local DJ/Soundtrack legend David Holmes.

Teaming up with his friends who were DJ's and producer's became part of the local underground collective, DJing and playing live around Belfast and Ireland. With his friend Mark 'Scoper' Bell they produced the seminal track Scoper & Bubba - I'm Satisfied released on Luke Solomon and Derrick Carter's Classic label.

Then further releases as Scoper & Bubba alongside label mates Romanthony and Milton Jackson on Glasgow Underground and for Paul Woolford's Hip Therapy project. Collaborations with Timmy 'Jet Project' Stewart as Bubba & T-Bone seen release's on labels Elevation, Mode Music and Tom Budden's Alive imprint and have seen big support and plays by Dubfire, James Zabiela, Ivan Smagge, Ewan Pearson, Ricardo Villalobos, Paul Woolford, Laurent Garnier, Solomun, Ben Watt and more.

Now embarking on a exciting new solo project which sees his debut album coming out on eclectic electronic label Aciitone. And the first in a series of releases for Tel Aviv Label Asymmetric and Chris Duckenfield and Jet Projects Extended Play.

"It's cool that you make something in your bedroom and with the technology you can reach lots of different people, I'm very excited that Aciitone are getting this project out. Music speaks an international language"

With more tracks and remixes on the way in the coming month's, in 2010 you'll definitely be hearing more...

FEEDBACK:

The album is fucking greeeeeeat... proper wonky house like we haven't heard for too long now...
IVAN SMAGHE (BLACKSTROBE / KILL THE DJ)

Girl in mask is great. Heatseeker cool melodic hook. Altered states is a hot groove.
DJ CHLOE (KILL THE DJ / FRANCE)

Wooooah, that's chunkier than a family pack of Yorkie bars! Nice work, a really choice package.
IDJ / IBIZA VOICE REVIEWS

Crack'n album from Jonny. Will be supporting 100%
AARON SHIM (YELLOW / BELFAST)

Killer track!!! Love the original....
SIOPIS (GET PHYSICAL / BERLIN)

Girl in the Mask and Mixed Herbs are both very good.
ANIL CHAWLA (GLOBAL UNDERGROUND)

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
