Depeche Mode live reunion with Alan Wilder

In what was a historic night for Depeche Mode last night at their launch of Teenage Cancer Trust’s 10th anniversary of gigs at the Royal Albert Hall, the band were sensationally reunited on-stage with ex-band member Alan Wilder, after a wait of 16 years.

Wilder appeared as a special guest during the show to perform 'Somebody' with Martin Gore. A well-kept secret was finally revealed to an unsuspecting audience at the moment of the first encore, in what was the band’s first-ever show at the Royal Albert Hall.

"Dave contacted me a few weeks back and asked if I'd be willing to join them on-stage,' says Alan.

'He assured me that everyone in the band was into the idea. I was very happy to accept, especially as it was all in a good cause and we were long overdue some kind of reunion of this sort. It was great to see everyone again and catch up a bit, and it was also the first time I have actually 'seen' Depeche Mode perform!"

In a night of firsts and rarities for Depeche Mode, they also played a nape-prickling version of 'One Caress’, 'Home’ and 'Come Back’ with strings, for the first time in 17 years.
