Haiti compilation breaks US album chart record

The all-star Hope For Haiti Now album has become the first digital-only release to hit the top of the US charts.

The compilation of performances from George Clooney's charity telethon sold 171,000 units over the weekend, according to Billboard chart compilers.

The album features performances by U2, Beyonce, Madonna, Jay-Z, Rihanna and Justin Timberlake.

The telethon has raised over US$60 million for the Haiti earthquake relief effort.
