Best Echo deal overall

Why we like it

During Amazon's Early Black Friday sale, you can score an all-new Echo Show 5 (3rd gen) for just $39.99. That's a pretty sweet deal, considering the sticker price is usually $89.99.

It can connect to various smart home devices, allowing you to control your lights, thermostat, and more with your voice. Plus, it's got a bigger sound than its predecessor and a 5.5-inch screen, making it perfect for watching videos, checking the weather, or video calling friends and family.

This smart device is available in charcoal, glacier white, and cloud blue.

Best runner-up Echo deal

Why we like it

It's not the most recent Echo Show 8 model, but for over 50 percent off the original price, the 2nd gen version is a steal. The full touchscreen smart device does everything you'd expect from an Alexa-enabled smart speaker but adds a welcome visual element that can show you your day at a glance and the latest weather reports, make video calls, pull up your favorite streaming apps, and more. It also has an easily accessible privacy shutter for when you're not using the device's front camera. Pick one up ahead of Black Friday for just $49.99.

Best Echo Dot Deal

Why we like it

The Echo Dot is ideal for anyone looking for a smart speaker on a budget. It's only $22.99 and still provides all the functionality you'd expect from an Echo device. And, according to Amazon, the 2022 Echo Dot (5th gen) is its best-sounding Echo Dot yet, delivering crisp vocals and balanced bass for your favorite music.

While you can't make phone calls with the Echo Dot, you can control your smart home devices, set timers and alarms, ask for information, and even add items to your shopping list thanks to the built-in assistant, Alexa.

This smart device is available in charcoal, glacier white, and deep sea blue.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
