The mayor of Baton Rouge -- a likely refuge for tens of thousands of evacuees from New Orleans if a storm hits this season -- was more than a little irked. New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin last week unveiled an elaborate hurricane plan without so much as a call to his counterpart upriver.

The River Center, Baton Rouge's equivalent of the Superdome, would not be available for sheltering New Orleanians, Mayor Kip Holden announced.

That would be price gouging ... which is morally and legally wrong. That's not even cool.

On the other hand, if the oil companies & distributors raised the base price and lowered the percentage paid out to individual stores that sell gasoline, then their hands are tied and they HAVE to raise prices to make their own (smalle) profit and big oil gets away with it. Fair? I don't think so.
