  9. You’ve started the year of with a band with new track “Speak Up” with Wynter Gordon, tell us about that? With the success of my remix for Wynter Gordon's 'Dirty Talk', I figured I wanted to do a track of my own with her. She's an amazing artist and an incredible person. 'Speak Up' is basically my sequal to 'Turbulence', coming with that same rave vibe for the clubs but now coated with a vocal so it's a track you can sing along to as well. And Trilogy ft Norman Doray & Arni Cost is out soon? It has actually been out and released before 'Speak Up'. My new years resolution was to put out more tracks then I did in 2011, and so far I've managed to do so! Much more on the way soon too, I'm on a roll this year! Your track with Example last year was both a club and a chart smash. What was it like working with Example? Any plans to collaborate in the future? He's incredible as well. A very ambitious guys with a master plan and the talent to back it up. It's very nice to work with him, I feel we have a similar vibe. We have been collaborating again and I've done a track for his new album. This year you remixed Madonna feat. M.I.A. & Nicki Minaj "Give Me All Your Luvin" . Did Madonna approach you directly? Yes, she actually did. It seems she works out with two personal trainers every morning and they always bring music. Whenever she heard cool music played by them, my name would continously pop up so she reached out to me. I actually went to her house and talked to her about it. At first hand it was to work with her on her album. It was quite hard for me to fit it in the schedule, so we only managed to do the remix. These are three huge stars – any one else you’d like to remix for? Madonna was definately one of my all time highlights. I'm currently talking to do Miike Snow, who I'm a big fan of and I would love to do someone like Coldplay or Phoenix, my favorite band. You are playing alongside Hardwell, Nicky Romero and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano – a full Dutch contingent, are the Dutch taking over the world? Yeah I'm quite impressed by that! The Dutch have always been doing well, though it seems stronger than ever now. I'm happy our sound is very much appreciated. You play Gatecrasher along, are you looking forward to returning? Absolutely, it's always a pleasure and I really enjoy the booth, the feel of the room and the crowd obviously. What can we expect this time around? It's set to be a massive night. As I never plan my sets, I haven't got a clue! I always go by the second, depending on the crowd and the vibe. That's when you get the best result as a DJ. The only thing I can promise is that I'll bring the energy and the fun. I always try to give my utmost best at every show. I do every show as if it's my last one ever, like Sting used to say. It keeps the passion at it's best. What do you have planned for Miami and Ibiza this year? Miami was incredible again. My two own events, Super You&Me at Liv and the Mixmash Poolparty at National were both sold out weeks in advance. I performed Ultra mainstage again and I got a lot of nice and good reactions to my set there. I'll be back at Amnesia with my Super You&Me nights again in Ibiza. Very happy to host another season. Roll on summer! Any further releases planned for this year? Absolutely! The single after 'Speak Up' is ready to go and it has more of a 'Barbara Streisand' kind of edge to it this time. Very excited for my next clubbanger called '1234' featuring Chuckie and Martin Solveig. We aired it live from Miami this year and the response has been incredible! I even had David Guetta call me from Tokyo today to just say he thinks it's huge!

  14. Kim – Thanks for chatting to us – Tell our readers a little about yourself? My name is Kim Fai and I’m a Producer/DJ from a small town Called Tipton in the West Midlands. I’ve been producing for around 5/6 years now and that’s what i spend pretty much all my time doing! Sum your style up in 3 words? Nipples go hard! Where do you take your inspiration from for your productions? Mainly just jamming in the studio really. Or I might hear something on the radio that just springs off an idea in my head. 2012 has seen some of your biggest tracks to date, and we’re only 3 months in. Arguably the biggest of those is your remix for none other than Madonna – How did it feel being asked to remix for such a legend? I was over the moon when I got the call to say I’d been asked to do it. She’s without doubt one of the biggest artists in the last 30 year, so I was excited that I could put my own twist on her new single. If you could remix anyone else on the planet, who would it be and why? I was a huge Oasis fan when I was young. I learnt to play guitar because of them and I could play everyone of their songs. Lead parts included. I would love to remix one of their songs but if I’m honest, I’d be scared of ruining it. Producing or DJing – Which would be your favourite if you had to choose? This is one I get asked a lot. For me, the two go hand in hand. I spend all my time during the week working in the studio on new tracks and edits ready to play at my shows. That’s the biggest buzz for me. Seeing all the hard work pay off when the crowd go nuts [hopefully!] Moving to the DJ side of your career, you’ve been supported by some of the biggest names in the world, notably the likes of Steve Angello declaring his love for you and your tracks and Pete Tong tipping you to be part of the next House Mafia. If you could sing the praises of any upcoming talent, who would get the thumbs up from you? At this time there are so many new producers coming through it’s hard to keep up! Which is a good thing. I love to see the younger generation making use of software which has become much more affordable and going nuts with it. They’re making tracks that, sound wise, are up there with some of the best in the business. You’re also a part of the institute that is Toolroom – Any hot new releases coming our way over summer that you can tell us about? Myself, Funkagenda & Paul Thomas are just putting the finishing touches to our first collaboration which will be out on the label in the summer which I’m very much looking forward too. We’ve been meaning to get together and work on something for a while now. Hopefully the first of many. Rumour has it you’ll be joining the ranks of Michael Woods, Roger Sanchez and X-Press 2 by recording a special episode for the Data Transmission podcast ahead of the Bitch weekend, What can the listeners expect from that? I’ve tried to translate the mix as though it were one of my live sets. So it’s pretty ‘In your face’! Including a few of my own tracks of course. Definitely one for when you’re getting ready to go out. For your fans reading that are heading over to Bed, Leeds and Digital, Newcastle for the Bitch Easter Special, Do you have any musical treats in store that you can let us in on? Lots actually! I’ve got a heap of new tracks that I’m currently testing out on the road that will be released over the remainder of the year. So if they’re there they will be getting a sneaky peak at them. You’ll be playing alongside Hardwell at these events, Any plans to take him under your wing and show him just how well the UK can party? Definitely. We party with the best of them! Outside of music, what keeps you entertained? Any unusual hobbies or bizarre interests we should know about? I’ve been getting into cooking a lot over the last few years. It’s my way of winding down after a days work in the studio. My Mrs doesn’t complain about it either. I used to work out a lot but I find it more difficult when I’m on the road a lot. That’s my excuse anyway! Finally, a few cheeky questions: Ibiza or Miami? Mmmm. I’ll go Miami One track guaranteed to get your moving on the dance floor? Madness – Baggy Trousers
Favourite food? Chinese Dim Sum. I could eat it for every meal.

If you could pick one super power, what would it be? Invisibility. I’d go to Area 51 and see wassup! What is the one item you simply must take with you when travelling? My laptop. My whole life is on there. What’s your party trick? I honestly don’t have one! Not a lot of people know this but Kim Fai is really good at……Doing different accents. I can nail most of them. Drives my family mad though! Catch Kim Fai at Bitch’s Easter Bank Holiday Special in Leeds AND Newcastle alongside Hardwell!! For more info – http://www.facebook.com/b1tchevents

  17. Legendary northern promoters Bitch and their disciples make a triumphant return to Bed this April with. Following road-blocked Bed events with Holland homeboys AFROJACK and NICKI ROMERO Bed’s Dutch Invasion continues with the announcement that HARDWELL is to make his debut at the club on the 8th April 2012 Hardwell is joined by Toolroom legend Kim Fai for this Easter extravaganza. The Bitch takeover will be in full swing when April comes beckoning and this can only mean one thing, time to get MASSIVE! Easter Bank Holiday weekend brings one of the biggest, best and strongest line ups ever to grace Bitch’s diary and they’ve done it all for YOU! The Dutch are hotter than hot right now, dominating the world-stage and grabbing the attention of the world’s A-list pop, r&b and hip-hop stars including P. Diddy, Black Eyed Peas , Missy Elliott, NERD and David Guetta . And the HARDWELL is fast rising through the ranks, taking over the world and leading the Dutch revolution. .At only 23 Hardwell’s expertise and illustrious talent has catapulted him into the limelight as he joined world renowned Tiesto on his tour last year. In 2011 alone Hardwell remixed huge hits such as Taio Cruz, Hangover (Hardwell Remix), Marin Solveig ft. Kele, Ready 2 Go (Hardwell Remix) and the huge DJ Fresh ft. Sian Evans hit, Louder (Hardwell Remix). This new kid on the block, with exceptional technical skills mastered by touring the world, has firmly cemented his status as a true pioneer in the dance music industry. His “Big Room House” trademark has catapulted him to the #24 spot in the coveted DJMAG Top 100 poll. And the young gun is already at the top of his game playing the main stage at Creamfields and releasing Beatport top ten hits including 'Encoded', 'The World' and 'Cobra' through his own label Revealed. His storming collaboration with Tiësto on hit record Zero 76 went to #1 on Beatport and received a huge amount of airplay worldwide. Behind the decks Hardwell never fails to deliver. His position as a true crossover artist is crystal clear – he’s in demand by some of the world’s biggest artists to give their tunes that big room house vibe. Behind the decks Hardwell never fails to deliver. These days he’s bringing it to the masses, with performances all over the world from Sydney to Miami and Ibiza to London. Hardwell recently toured with Tiësto through North America and made his debut at one of the world’s biggest dance events, ‘Sensation’ in Prague, Czech and Denmark. The last 2years have witnessed a new house sound gripping the world stage. The Dutch are taking over. And for one night only Bed presents an electronic Dutch genius. Adding some Toolroom magic to the mix KIM FAI. Bursting out of Birmingham's club scene a few years ago he instantly seized the attention of the powerhouses Mark Knight, Swedish House Mafia, and Funkagenda. Fai has built himself a reputation of delivering solid productions and remixes for undoubtedly some of the world's hottest dance music label's. Kim's infusion of Techno & Minimalist House productions have gained support from some of today's most influential artists including Sander Kleinenberg, Mark Knight, Funkagenda, Umek, Carl Kennedy, Seamus Haji, ATFC, Exacta, Trophy Twins, Noir and Paul Thomas to name a few. He's previously remixed Funkagenda's “San Francisco” and “What The F*&k” the latter of which was supported by A – List DJ's world-wide including Roger Sanchez and reached #16 on Beatport's Tech House chart. And more recently his remix of Ricky Stone's “Shanghai Taxi” hit #1 at Djmag.com and #5 on Djdownload's Techno chart, remaining firmly in the top 20 for 3 weeks. Hardwell D.O.D Alex Simmons Admission £10 Early Birds / £12 Standard/www.gatecrasher.com Interview HARDWELL 2011 was a phenomenal year for you pick a few highlights? Working together with Tiesto, being #24 in the DJ Mag list, several big tours abroad and my first Revealed Label night. You played the Creamfields main-stage this year, tell us about that? Yes 2011 was the first time mainstage for me, it was a total madness and the party was awesome. The crowd in the Uk always parties hard and I love that! And you played the amazing Sensation in 2011, that must have been amazing? Yeah, that was phenomenal! At 23 you are already no. 24 in DJ Magazine top 100 DJs what is your secret ? There is no secret.. it’s all by dedication and big love for music. You toured a lot with Tiesto last year, how was that? It was a big honour to go on tour with world’s greatest DJ. I learned a lot from him and it was a great experience for me. And you’ve been working in the studio with Tiesto? Yes that’s right we did track zero76, which was #1 on Itunes and Beatport. There is also a lot more coming. Any other big names you’d like to work alongside? Avicii, I would love to work with him. You seem to constantly be in the Beatport Top Ten with your releases, do you have a specific formula that works? No, there is no formula. It just happens and I’m happy, so many people like my music. Your production output is really high, why is that important? It’s a good thing to keep your sets fresh and new, because of that it’s important to keep producing and keep the people interested and want to come to your gigs. Can we expect an album in 2012? No, not in a short period of time. That’s really something for the future. You’ve had phenomenal success for one so young, what advice would you give to other producers/DJs trying to break into the scene? Be dedicated and original and keep on making tracks. The Dutch are taking over the dance music scene yet again, what makes the Dutch so incredibly talented when it comes to the electronic scene? In Holland there are so many parties, so for DJ’s there are a lot of ways to get some experience and to grow. What can we expect from your set? You can expect a lot of new tracks and one big crazy madness.

  20. Main Room – Trance Paul Oakenfold John O'Callaghan Alex M.O.R.P.H Protoculture Mansion - House / Dance Paul Kellie Kris Shaw Bed – RnB Mikael Diaz Arkade - Alternative Mash Up The Saturday Night Project Joining Paul Oakenfold we see one of Irelands most famous exports and one of in the A-list trance elite, John O'Callaghan who is set to continue his journey further up the ladder of electronic dance superstardom. John's high- energy trance mix coupled with a highly refined precision mixing style has seen him surge up through the DJ ranks. Spinning his first Radio 1 Essential Mix in the summer of 2008, the gifted 29 year old was one of only 4 trance DJs to do so during the year. Immediately following that, he made his debut in DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs rundown, arriving at No.60. In the 2009 chart he became one of the year's highest climbers, leaping 36 places into the world's top 25 (at number 24) and cemented his place as Ireland's foremost DJ & producer. In 2010 he held his own and remained in the Top 40 at number 33, in a year where house music exploded into the poll – this was a great achievement to maintain his rank. In his home country he has picked up the Best DJ awards at the Irish Dance Music Awards for 3 consecutive years; decisively conquered the notoriously competitive testing ground of Ibiza and was the first Irishman to play Trance Energy. John has achieved so much already but this is just the beginning of a trance legacy. Next up on the line up we see another DJ making his GB debut, Alex M.O.R.P.H. Alex is not only one of Germany’s most prominent Trance DJs & producers, but he has grown to a stand-out personality in the global dance music business. From a small independent artist with various producer aliases, Alex M.O.R.P.H. was able to establish and redefine himself and his sound again and again, delivering a big palette of highly respected quality productions and remixes over the years – for and with worldwide top artists like Armin van Buuren, Paul van Dyk, Markus Schulz, Rank 1 and others. Next up we bring yet another debut at the GB venue. Protoculture is one of only a few South African producers to get the combination right and become a truly worldwide sensation. The Cape Town-based dj and producer went from headlining festivals on the local Psytrance scene each season, to living on international rotation and playing to audiences upwards of 150 000 people. His trademark melodic and uplifting sound has been played in all four corners of the globe, with gigs taking him to super clubs and incredible festivals in London, Tokyo, San Paulo, Moscow and everywhere in between. As his rise took momentum and his gigs became more prolific, Protoculture shifted gear with ease; evolving his sound as, more often, he found himself billed alongside iconic dj’s from the world of Trance. Diversifying his sound whilst still flying the flag high for South Africa, Protoculture has accessed the next realm of his music career and carved himself a place on the Electronic map with the best of them. His third studio album "Love Technology" expressed exactly how far he’s come and set the stage for an esteemed future in Trance music. Room 2 we bring you house music all night long with GB residents Paul Kellie & Martin Wright. Room 3 we bring you the biggest RnB and Hip-Hop Classics with Mikael Diaz And Expect a little bit of this and a little bit of that with the Alternative Dubstep / Drum & Bass in room 4 with the Saturday Night Project. 21. On Saturday 28th January Trance takes over the main room for the first of many of 2012’s events. After 3 sell out shows at the venue Gb are pleased to announce the return of the original superstar DJ Paul Oakenfold. Hailed as one of the world’s leading DJs / remixers by some of the most respected titles including CNN, BBC, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix & More and whether he’s producing countless film scores including the latest offering from Jerry Bruckheimer ‘G-Force’ to producing on Madonna’s latest release Celebration, Oakenfold is one of the most versatile and busiest forces in the music scene today. His relationship with Gatecrasher spans over 15 years including headlining at Summer Sound System, NEC events and many special club nights and we can’t wait to have him back after his storming set last July 2011. Joining Paul Oakenfold we see one of Irelands most famous exports and one of in the A-list trance elite, John O'Callaghan who is set to continue his journey further up the ladder of electronic dance superstardom. His third studio album “Love Technology” expressed exactly how far he’s come and set the stage for an esteemed future in Trance music. 22. Gatecrasher catch up with Judge Jules ahead of his set at Gatecrasher The White Party on Boxing day, Gatecrasher Birmingham You’ve had another storming year in Ibiza - tell us about that? With the world’s economy upside-down, you’d be surprised to hear that’s it’s been one of our busiest seasons to date. It’s survival of the fittest in the most competitive clubbing location in the world. To stay ‘fit’, we’re constantly thinking of ways to improve and keep things fresh. This applies to both décor/entertainment and the DJs we use. Roll on 2012.. You’ve had another phenomenal year, tell us about the highlights? The above-mentioned was certainly one of them. I also played many great gigs in all four corners of the world, but closer to home, the SW4 festival in London was definitely one of my highlights. There’s something special about playing a large-scale event in your hometown. What can we expect from you in 2012? I’ve got a backlog of completed singles, which will be winging their way to release in early 2012. DJs are judged as artists predominantly on the basis of their production offerings, and I’ve got a shed load of absolutely wicked tunes ready to burst out. Any New Year’s resolutions? It’s a tricky one. After being asked this question so many times (always going on to fail in my resolutions), I’m a little reticent to commit myself. Let me think… attempting to go to the gym at least 5 times a week. Any predictions on who will be big in 2012? Russia’s Arty is making his mark massively on the scene. I think 2012 will be his year! Are you planning any new releases soon? Yes, my next track is called “Madness”, and will be out to download very soon. Any big acts you’d like to work with? I’d love to collaborate on a track with Armin Van Buuren or Ferry Corsten- I think we’d cook up some Anglo-Dutch magic. They’re both good mates, but the distance between the UK and Holland is a bit of a factor counting against it. 2012 marks your 15 year anniversary on Radio 1 – what your best and worst memories of working at the station? All my best memories come from the countless Radio 1 live events I’ve performed at. It’s all very well doing your show in a subterranean studio with a few mates and production staff in tow, but screaming live crowds are where it’s at. The saddest memories was when John Peel died. He was a gent and a true legend. How have things changed over the years? Wow, that’s a massive question that would take a book (or at least a PHD thesis) to answer. In SO many ways and in every aspect of what I do, principally driven by technology. I could go on for hours… Can you go another 15 years do you think? Clearly there will be a point when it’s time to pass the BBC mic (and headphones) over, but I haven’t reached it just yet. 15 years more DJing is clearly unlikely though… What can we expect from you set at Gatecrasher? Chunky, Uplifting with a gritty industrial groove! It always feels like a homecoming when you are here? I’ve been playing Gatecrasher longer than any other UK club night and it definitely feels like home. I’ve got a key to the venue somewhere on my keyring. What do you think on the Birmingham club? Doubly excited because Boxing Day is such a massive clubbing night, possibly my favourite date of the year.
