  1. I'm glad you said it, because when I read that article yesterday I was all prepared for some firefox rulez and IE is for tards article. But instead I have no idea what the hell he's talking about...

especially that browsing in iTunes thing...I honestly laughed out loud at that one.

  2. I really like soundtracks, but even I don't own half of those so I can't comment on too too many. I do like polar express, and definitely like the john williams harry potter stuff that was nominated. I was somewhat let down by KB II though...not as good as the first one I thought...but eh, still not bad.

    And Ray is just sweeeeeet.

  3. Esa-Pekka Salonen

The Los Angeles Philharmonic announced on 8 February 2005 that it is extending the contract of its Music Director Esa-Pekka Salonen by two years, taking the partnership through to the 2007/8 season. The contract extension also includes an 'evergreen' clause, indicating Salonen's and the orchestra's desire to continue the relationship beyond 2008.

'I feel privileged to work for this incredibly exciting symphonic organization, where there is unlimited potential for invention', says the Finnish conductor. 'We are witnessing a sociological phenomenon, a completely new music culture being born in Los Angeles. New and diverse audiences are flocking to Walt Disney Concert Hall. The high profile the orchestra has achieved puts us at the very center of the cultural community. There is no better or more exciting job I could be doing at this moment.'

The news coincides with the announcement of the orchestra's 2005/6 season. Details online.

  5. Sixten Ehrling

The Swedish conductor Sixten Ehrling died in New York City on 13 February 2005, aged 86.

Born in Malmö on 3 April 1918, Ehrling studied piano and violin at Stockholm's Royal Academy of Music, and was awarded the Jenny Lind Scholarship in 1939. He worked as a repetiteur at Royal Swedish Opera, and was an assistant to Karl Böhm at Dresden State Opera.

Following some criticism, Ehrling left his job as principal conductor at Royal Swedish Opera, and worked in the USA, conducting the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 10 years from 1963. He later taught conducting at Juilliard, and worked with the Denver Symphony and the San Antonio Symphony. Known for his focus, clarity and perfectionism, he also had a notoriously short fuse, which sometimes lost him contracts.
