  1. There are several issues with electronic voting - some which can be remedied. Some of the machines dont print a record of the vote. Secondly, the head of Diebold, which makes the machines, has said he is a Bush supporter publicly... I guess he can say what he wants, but the public announcement brings up questions of conflicts of interest...

Because the Diebold boss says he's a Bush supporter I would think ESPECIALLY that these machines would be certified, and re-certified, and run under the magnifying glass. He couldn't trick all his liberal programmers to fudge the count. It just wouldn't happen because of executive conspriracy.

I think people should be more worried about data integrity after all votes have been cast and extracted from the machines.

  2. i'm sorry, cjules, i think you're terribly misinformed (but i hope you're correct).

    see FL 04 is 10X FL 2K

I checked out that link but didn't find anything about electronic voting...

Anyway, I work in tech, especially secure systems like this one, and I simply haven't seen or heard anything fishy except for techno-phobe jitters.

What about hanging/dimpled chads, and lsoing whole truckloads of votes... And what's the deal with truckloads anyway? There's problems with paper ballots too....

  3. I believe the electronic voting will be secure...

There's simply going to be too many checks and balances for a new machine with these type of implications. Each vote will be logged and be available for checking at anytime...

These bits aren't going to lie. The electronic trail they will leave will be very traceable. People trust technology every day - it's just the newbie jitters...

  4. Man! Why did I let you intimidate me away from my bet!?!?

Thank Gawd the Sox are in - A 10 times more interesting series you'll have to admit. It's been so damn long, I'm only upset it's not Cubs vs Red Sox.

    Go Sox!

(I suppose it helps that I have family from Boston....)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first time in hostory that anyone has come back from a 3-0 deficit in any sport? Basketball too? I think so!

  5. NY Yankeesk up 17-8 in the third game. Rodriguez, Sheffield and Matsui with homers. Doubles across the board. The Yanks are just too powerful this year, and when they are on, there is nothing that can beat them

Yep, there is no amount of money that could buy a better team.

  6. When it comes down to it, if WalMart has the DVD player I want for $50, and the next guy has it for $60 - I have to go with WalMart. I don't like their stores, it's everything that's making this country unpersonable, but money talks. WalMart has enabled many people on limited incomes to get more for their dollar. And for that, I give WalMart the thumbs up. I'm glad they won't allow unions too because those are just money holes as well.

I'm all for Main St USA, but those are going to turn into "historic" districts while the real business is done elsewhere.

The economics speak for just about everything.

  7. Yeah, I guess that was my ploy to get a longer bday thread... "if I spread it out over a couple days...."

So yeah, I'm 29 today - where have the 20s gone? It sure was a good decade though!

    Thanks again!

  8. I eat long odds for breakfast.... 'sides, there's been so many sports upsets lately I'm feeling anything can happen.

Look at the record this year - almost 50/50....

  9. :o:o:o:o:o

Holy shit, my profile is wrong! I dunno why it said the 10th, but it's really the 13th!

No matter though, just a few days early! Thanks so much everyone for the birthday wishes... This will be the first time I turn 29, and then I guess I stay there for a little while eh? At least a few years methinks....

So anyway, my wife turns 30 on 10/22, and we're gonna have a fat bday party that night for both of us... maybe they'll be some entertaining pics afterwards.

    Thanks for the shout out!!!

    Let's party like it's 1999....

    :partae: :partae: :partae: :partae:

    Love the club smiley!

  10. At first, I was like wtf? Goose meat is banned in Cali?

    But when you read on....

"There is clearly nothing humane about mechanically inducing disease in a bird by forcing a pipe down its throat and making it consume such an abnormal quantity of food that its liver expands many times its normal size.

Seems like this is a good idea to ban just fois gras... I guess regular goose meat can still be consumed... Slaughterhouses are nasty enough, but I support the fact that we shouldn't torture before slaughter...

  11. Sony already annouced it's using 50GB Blu-Ray discs for PS3. Notquite commercially available yet, but I can't wait. I need to back up lots and lots of GBs...

I like LoTDs comment about 4 discs with a TB of stuff - that's thelevel I want to operating at :)

but I bet it will be very expensive for awhile!
