  2. ON DECEMBER 7, 1988, the Australian environment campaigner Jon Dee was leading a double life in London. By day he was a successful charity fundraiser and event organiser. By night the young Dee was a rock'n'roll demon, a familiar face around the fringes of legendary groups such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Queen. He once failed a high school exam because it followed a night of hard drinking with the Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page. read more: http://foxyurl.com/wyi source: SMH.com.au/Music image: Fair Use/Kate Geraghty/Screengrab: JON DEE
  3. A BALMY winter's afternoon and traffic is flowing easily on Hollywood's West Sunset Boulevard. It's Monday, December 30, 1968. Factories and stores are closed until the New Year or have a skeleton staff. But inside Studio 1, in the United Western Recorders complex at 6000 Sunset, it's business as usual. A two-hour recording session devoted to one song – an obscure French number titled Comme d'Habitude furnished with new lyrics by the Canadian singer Paul Anka – is under way. Engineer Lee Herschberg rolls the tape. Arranger and conductor Don Costa quietens the orchestra. Frank Sinatra leans slightly forward toward the microphone. This one starts real quiet. read more: http://foxyurl.com/wyg source: SMH.com.au/Entertainment/Elissa Blake image: Fair Use/www.psu.edu/ur: FRANK SINATRA/MY WAY

  5. It is about time the public rose from the couch. Seemingly overnight, technology has once again made criminals of the majority (recording TV shows was technically illegal until 2006). It might have happened slowly in your household, or perhaps you've been a pirate for a while now. If, after reading the above passage, you're thinking, “Criminal? Not me!” then listen up: we're all criminals now. If you don't believe me, just go to the movies where you'll see a hip little advertisement that talks about how, while you wouldn't steal a car, downloading pirated movies is a crime. Now I hope I'm not the only one who thinks that any law that renders the vast majority of the public criminal is just a little bit ridiculous. But surely there is a good reason for all this hype, right? The answer lies in exploring why we even have copyright. read more: http://foxyurl.com/wya source: SMH.com.au/Technology News/Jarrad Mitchell image: Fair Use/www.cartoonstock.com: "We're all sick of being labelled criminals because we moved with the times and got into downloading"
