in short, after hearing this album back in august 2000 (bought solely for 'Woke Up This Morning,' the themesong from the Sopranos), we googled for 'alabama 3' and got nothing. but we kept at it and in early november found out they were in the states, saw them in NYC (the night before the last presidential 'election') and then flew out to San Francisco and saw them again. we were totally knocked out by their music, their stage presence, their wit and by how friendly they are. in all the years i've been going to gigs, i've never seen any band w/the power to move so many different kinds of people, a huge cross-section of everyone apart from the narrow-minded.

oh no--i'm very very happy and grateful you copied this, please don't get me wrong. i just got a bit thrown off, reading the gig review and then glancing up...then again, it is a bit confusing. their last tour was called Last Train to Mashville.

thanks for posting these reviews...the thing of it is, it's practically impossible to pigeonhole this band's music and thus, to promote them properly. at one time i only knew 'woke up this morning' from watching the sopranos and i was convinced this was a group of amerikan black guys, goofing on musical genres. what i dint know then...

i just noticed the topic's 'LTTM' (title of 4th & 5th albums) and this is a review of one of the gigs on the last tour...wotever works.
i hope my cursing hasn't turned anyone off in above post--i was quoting the lead singer on one of the many versions of one of their tunes mansion on the hill.

this isn't a country or folkie type band, not by a long shot.Their music is a twisted blend of country, folk rock, blues and electro with a dark British sense of humour. and they left out the heavy rock and drugs references and all the cursing but hey, it's the BBC. thanks again. i need a motherfucking access all-areas pass tonight...' ah, you had to be there. ^_^

OMG, what a surprise (thank you very much, DudeAIC). alabama 3 was inadvertently instrumental to us ending up living/stuck in EU. no time now but i'll be back later to talk about my fave subject, the closest thing to a reason to believe that i can muster.

yes! and the mississippis (m-john hurt and m-fred mcdowell) and the reverend gary davis, blind boys of alabama and robert nighthawk. more recently R L BURNSIDE (another major, still-alive proponent of mixing blues & rock roots and the results are excellent).

news you won't see anywhere else: a few months ago Mick Jones did some work w/Segs, who ages ago was the bassplayer of the Ruts, and who is currently the bassplayer for the alabama 3 (the UK's best-kept musical secret). ^_^

i looked for a separate punk forum here, totally forgetting that it isn't a viable genre these days (another reason i dig being on this side of the atlantic, punk is alive and well and thriving especially in the brixton part of london). a fave band is 6 Days Till Sunday, all under 21 and who truly rock out.

Exile is the one i've owned on vinyl, cassette, CD and mp3. i think it's the oldest album i still listen to.

it's the same old names that are continually providing the posting material.
i can't find the source now but have read there's a very vocal 10% (or so) in most online forums (i know that's very true for my own). but i could be wrong, it happens occasionally.

i would think everyone would be overjoyed about this, as my impression is that the clear channel stations have taken over most amerikan air, thus excluding anything slightly different or not commercial enough to pay off ASAP. i have huge issues about this--i dunno if i'm correct but i've read that which used to be known as 'payola' is now SOP (standard operating procedure). :angry:
