Crash

Hey everyone, I am looking for a program that is similar to the Imacs Garageband. Im looking for something where I can write in instrument parts and have them played back sounding like that instrument. But also I need control to make beats. I hear tons of good stuff about Reason 3, and I just wanted to know if it would give me what I am looking for before I purchase it. Thanks!
