  1. Veteran reggae singer Eddy Grant has accused Gorillaz of plagiarising one of his most famous hits.

Grant said the cartoon band's latest single 'Stylo' was a “blatant rip off” of his 1982 song 'Time Warp'.

In a statement, the 62-year-old said he was disappointed that the apparent similarities had gone unnoticed by both acts mutual publisher EMI and that he had sought legal advice.

“My song sits almost note to note with their release and is a blatant rip off,” Grant said.

  3. Posted ImagePink Floyd tracks may be removed from digital music services like iTunes after a High Court ruling.

Their latest record deal, signed with EMI before legal downloads came along, said individual songs must not be sold without the band's permission.

They argued that the same rule should apply to digital sales as well as CDs.

EMI disagreed but a judge has sided with Pink Floyd. The ruling is part of a long-running battle between the two sides over £10m in unpaid royalties.

  4. Following raids against a large file-sharing site in December 2009, police in Greece are engaged in an ongoing operation to close down the country’s largest BitTorrent site and arrest its operators. Thus far there have been six arrests, with Interpol chasing two further admins believed to be located in The Netherlands.

Although it wasn’t yet evident, December 2009 appeared to mark the beginning of an effort to shut down the Greek file-sharing scene. The Society for the Protection of Audiovisual Works (EPOE) conducted an investigation and moved in conjunction with the police to carry out the first action of its type against a file-sharing site in the country.

The 285,000 member Greek-Fun.com carried around 14,000 links to music, domestic and international movies, software and computers games. Around 5,500 of these are believed to have linked to material in the EPOE repertoire. As is usual with these cases, EPOE were quick to point to the financing of the site as an indication of criminal behavior. Like many sites, Greek-Fun offered benefits to users who donated to keep the site running although the admins denied profiteering.

  5.  Posted ImageSmashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is holding open auditions to recruit a new bassist and keyboardist.

The singer said the group were using the method following the success of their search for a new drummer last year.

“We were lucky enough to find drummer Mike Byrne through an open audition process so why not open the doors again to anyone who might be interested for the bass or keyboard position,” he said.

Corgan, who is the only remaining original member of the band, said “everyone” was welcome to apply for the audition.

“As you can see from our past and present, age, race, or a person’s background is not an issue,” he added.

You can apply for the positions via the following contact addresses: [email protected] or [email protected].

In a statement to Rolling Stone, his family said: “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today.

  7. Posted ImageRolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards has said he expects that the band will record new material before the end of 2010.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Richards said: “There’s no definite plans, but I can’t see any of them stopping.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if we did some recording later this year.”

However Richards cast doubt over the Rolling Stones' future as a live act. He said the group may consider scaling down any future concerts, despite the success of recent stadium tours.

“Maybe we’ll search for a different way for the Stones to go back on the road,”  Richard said.

“Maybe not the football stadiums anymore. Maybe something different. You can’t go around there in lemon-yellow tights forever.”

The guitarist was also asked in the interview about rumours that he had stopped drinking.

“Listen, the rumours of my sobriety are greatly exaggerated,” he replied, before adding: “And we’ll leave it at that.”

The Rolling Stones are set to re-issue their 1972 album 'Exile on Main Street' in May.
