  1. As an aside, the Coachella shows look damn hot--wish I could go! Not just for the Pixies--the Saturday May 1 show also features Radiohead (headlining), Kraftwerk, Wilco, International Noise Conspiracy, Sparta, Desert Sessions, Future Sound of London, Death Cab for Cutie, and Mark Farina amongst a dozen and a half others. Sunday May 2 has another 25 or so bands, including The Cure (headlining), Flaming Lips, Air, Basement Jaxx, Paul Van Dyk, Crystal Method, Adam Freeland and Mogwai...

Of the two, if I had to pick one, it's tough but I'd have to go with Saturday. Desert Sessions, FSOL, Radiohead AND the Pixies?!?

Me brain is already thinking how to get away with blackmail or bank robbery so as to afford go to this... :duck hunt:

  2. Sorry about that rainbowdemon (and community at large)...I got so carried away with posting those two bad puns like Bud-ump Cha! I didn't think about what I was doing...

Sex outside of the context of marriage is bad, m'kay? Masturbation is bad, m'kay? Water sports are bad, m'kay?

  3. They oughta headline Lollapalooza this year...at least then we might get a chance to see them. Not surprised they are selling out shows in three minutes--I tried to get tickets to a Pixies show at Brown University in the early 90's, and same thing--tickets gone in 30 seconds. Not being a Brown student didn't help either, ivy league self-righteous bastards.

    Pixies kick ass!

  4. I'm actually listening to some of my own compositions I wrote using the Acid prog a couple years ago...now playing on winamp

Contact The Commander - And So On...(CO2 Remix)

If anyone is interested in downloading/listening to any of my shit, pm me and we can meet on exocee.

  5. The Furthur Network changes everything about sharing and trading by allowing you, me and everyone else to share their tunes with each other. It is peer-to-peer, so what you share is available to everyone else on the Network. Download music 24/7/365."

I tried Further but could never get it to work...Are you (or anyone else) using it? Was there anything special you had to do to get it up and running or operating system you're using. I'm still using el crappo ME, maybe that's why...

  6. This kind of research is nothing new. Back in the 50's they were experimenting with LSD to cure alcoholism--in clinical and cotrolled settings acid was found to help alcoholics achieve a "spiritual experience" key to their recovery. Bill Wilson, one of the co-founders of AA, even tried the clinical experiments himself and agreed it would be a great tool in helping alcholics kick the bottle (his biography "Pass It On" has a chapter on it). Hallucinagens are not physically addictive like alcohol, amphetimines, cocaine or barbituates, and are only dangerous when taken in excessive quantities or uncontrolled conditions by individuals either inexperienced with their effects or with already exisitng mental health issues. The backlash against them in 60's were due to people taking extremely large doses with no supervision and then doing things like trying to fly off buildings. Setting is all important--when people take a standard dose of LSD or any other hallucinagenic in calm and benign settings they do fine; but in tense or stressful situations they can (though not always) "freak-out" and then there can be trouble. Talking to the cops when you are tripping totally sucks, as I can attest to from personal experience  ...very different from kicking back in your bedroom with your women and some good tunes, lol.

Anyway, the war on drugs will probably nix any use of ibogaine or any other similar treatment for addicts, despite the fact that there are reams of reports by clinical psychologists that they would be a boon to treating drug addiction. Our leaders would rather just lock 'em up or let them die of an overdose...

  7. YES!! Crystal Method are coming again!

A lot of live techno acts consist of watching someone turn knobs and slide levers, real exciting stuff. But when TCM play a live show (not a DJ event but an actual concert) they actually get into the music and jump around, flip their keyboards and put on a real live show. I was really super-impressed when they came to Providence last year--awesome show!

Plus everyone who brings a copy of the inner booklet from the Legion of Boom CD to the show will get to meet the band afterwards. Very cool!

FYI--This list I cobbled together from several different sources, including my local music/arts paper, which just announced the Providence show on Thursday--it isn't even listed at crystalmethod.com yet, and the April dates aren't in most online sources yet either. The gaps in the latter half of April will probably get filled in soon, so if they aren't coming to a venue near you yet just hang on--they probably announce more northeast & midwest shows than are listed here methinks.

  8. This is great news. UO were one of my all-time favorite alt-rock band--If they come anywhere near when they tour I highly recommend everyone go out to see them because they are very tight and have excellent songs, good performers too. They had this whole 'aristocrats on stage playing elegantly and sipping martinis' image that they cultivated to good effect. Supersonic Storybook is imo their most consistent release--I reccomend it to anyone who hasn't listened to them before to start there. They were critically acclaimed in their day, but unfortunately were just one of a number of excellent alternative bands from the late 80's-early 90's that just didn't get the airplay and media attention they deserved. Glad to hear they are giving their long-time fans & anyone else who missed them back in the day another chance to check them out.
