2. Jonny Drubel combines pop and jazz with a little bit of Broadway inspiration in his music. 8. Brasilian jazz/blues artist Beatrice Mason has been creating a lot of buzz as well as developing a cult following in her hometown of Rio de Janeiro since the release of her latest album, Mosaic. Her album sits in the “Top Album” category on iTunes and is entirely in Portuguese with the exception of the track “Caramel”. She has performed at the International Music Conference as well as Midem 2011 with standing room only crowds and is set to headline again this year at this highly attended conference in France. Mosaico received rave reviews by her fans and critics alike. With her distinctive sound, Mason has crossed over to new audiences in Europe and the United States. The "Globo", one of the largest newspapers in Brazil, writes about her debut: "A very tasteful album that is both classic and modern.” In spring 2013, the singer comes to Europe for the second time. After their stop at the music fair MIDEM in Cannes more concerts in Germany, France and Sweden are planned. Her repertoire includes the title of her album and other works from the Brasilian and international music world. She is currently working on her second album and the album's release in the U.S. For more information, tour dates, etc. visit her website here: www.BeatriceMason.com.br To listen to tracks go to iTunes at: http://bit.ly/ITunes_Beatrice
9. With it’s vast musical history and diverse culture, Chicago isn’t the kind of place to just ‘Fit In.’ Hailing from the Windy City, Sijay learned to craft his obsession with the unorthodox, into a nurturing relationship with lyric and song. Not even his musical upbringing could predict the depth of Sijay’s vocal talent; and when you consider his unique musical style, his apathy towards modern convention, and the passion he breathes for redefining the art of songwriting, fitting in just isn’t in the cards. Sijay’s musical mind is a complex instrument that is a rich marinade of Jazz, neo-soul, and R&B for just over 22 years. Quoting Sijay, “Every note I sings is meaningful; combining beautifully crafted tones with a rich timbre that eludes even the most experienced singers. Drawing inspiration from personal relationships, alternate history paths, and long and winding road trips, I catalogue a tapestry of original music that brings my passion for originality to the forefront.” In celebration of the new album “Detroit Club” and the upcoming holidays they are giving away the full length lead single coincidentally titled “Detroit Club” when you sign up for Sijay’s newsletter. 10. Regardless of the fact that Beatrice Mason’s songs are sung in Portuguese, she corners the universal sound of smooth jazz making her popularity take on a steady rise in the United States. Her latest album release just hit #50 on SmoothJazz.com. The College Music Journal (CMJ) recently ranked her album at #19 on their New World Music Chart, and her debuts at other core radio stations have been quite favorable. Thanks to her enchantingly percussive take on Suzanne Vega’s 1996 hit “Caramel” - the CD’s one English language track is available in three sultry “Nite Life” and “Pop” remixes by Motown veteran Michael B. Sutton (Smokey Robinson, Michael Jackson). From her website: “Mosaico: a musical mosaic of styles and sounds with the common thread of emanating from her native Brasil. “Algum Mistério (Some Kind of Mystery),” Ana Clara Horta’s piano samba “Cortejo,” and a duet version of Raphael Gemal’s “Canto Só” featuring guest vocalist Edu Krieger. An artful video was also lensed for her version of Vitor Ramil’s “Foi no mês que vem,” a mix of tango and electronica.” I can’t get enough of this record! Interested to hear others’ take on her music. Website here Listen to the 3 english mixes of “Caramel” here
