Film Composer Brian Reitzell Teams With My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields on "Last Summer": Listen

Brian Reitzell is a well-known composer and music supervisor who has worked on countless films, including movies by Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation, The Bling Ring, The Virgin Suicides) and Gus Van Sant (Promised Land), and TV shows including "Boss" and "Hannibal". He was also a member of Redd Kross. On June 3, he'll release Auto Music, his debut solo album, via Smalltown Supersound. It includes the above track "Last Summer", which features My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields, as well as contributions from My Morning Jacket's Jim James.

According to a press release, Reitzell watched films in his studio while recording. Songs were inspired by the Spanish 70s art film Spirit of the Beehive and pre-Fantasia animations by Oskar Fischinger.

“I wasn’t making a pop record,“ Reitzell said, “I was experimenting with sounds to further my knowledge for creating music for my film projects and exploring new ways to make music.”

Shields and Reitzell previously collaborated on Lost in Translation.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
