Pakistani students gang-rape Principal's wife

Five Pakistani college students allegedly raped the 18-year-old wife of their principal at gunpoint, photographed her in the nude and threatened to distribute the pictures if she complained to the police.

The rape, in Muzaffargarh of Punjab province, was an act of revenge for one of the students being slapped by the principal in class, said police officer Ahsan Mehboob. The boys have been arrested.

The parents of the boys had harassed the victim's husband Jafar Hussain Bhutta and he was unable to get a case registered against them, said Mehboob. A case was finally registered at the instance of Mehboob, the district police officer of Muzaffargarh.

Fla. Couple Accused of Child Abuse Caught

INVERNESS, Fla. (AP) - A Florida couple accused of torturing and starving five adopted children - including pulling out their toenails and subjecting them to electric shocks - were captured Friday in southeastern Utah after police tracked them through their cell phones, officials said.

The family included seven adopted children between the ages of 12 and 17. Five of the children told investigators they were tortured by the couple, subjected to electric shocks, beatings with hammers and having their toenails yanked out with pliers.

Estero student feels 'booty' suspension is bum rap

By DAVE BREITENSEIN

February 4, 2005

You can kick some booty. And you can shake your booty. But as 17-year-old Brad Devlin found out, you are not allowed to say you love booty.

During his daily sports report last week on Wild 4 News, the Estero High junior and another student were recapping the girls soccer team's 8-0 shutout win against North Fort Myers. The script, pre-approved by their TV production teacher, said that the team really kicked some booty. Then Devlin, wanting to inject a little energy into his broadcast, responded with a quick-witted joke: "I love booty," he cracked.

Instead of a laugh, though, Devlin's statement got him called into the administrative office. He then got the boot from school, suspended for five days in what Assistant Principal Howard Wendland termed "inappropriate comments on live school television broadcast."

 Oddly Enough - Reuters

By Astrid Poei

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian couple has launched a business offering worried parents (or concerned employers) private drug-detection services that will search homes and offices for everything from marijuana to heroin.

Russ Rathy of Pense, Saskatchewan, started the home-based business, Crusader Resources, along with his wife, after buying a young German shepherd trained to sniff out drugs.

Colorado Teens Fined for Giving Cookies to Neighbor

Fri Feb 4,10:49 PM ET

 Oddly Enough - Reuters

DURANGO, Colo. (Reuters) - A Colorado judge ordered two teen-age girls to pay about $900 for the distress a neighbor said they caused by giving her home-made cookies adorned with paper hearts.

The pair were ordered to pay $871.70 plus $39 in court costs after neighbor Wanita Renea Young, 49, filed a lawsuit complaining that the unsolicited cookies, left at her house after the girls knocked on her door, had triggered an anxiety attack that sent her to the hospital the next day.

I'm still stunned over this one.

e.g. health officials later found a third baby who had contracted herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003.

Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth..

In any event, this is the gist of it.

NEW YORK (AP) -- City health officials are investigating the death of a baby boy who was one of three infants to contract herpes after a rabbi circumcised them.

Ten days after Rabbi Yitzhok Fischer performed religious circumcisions on twins last October, one died of herpes and the other tested positive for the virus, according to complaint filed by the health department in Manhattan Supreme Court.

The complaint, reported in Wednesday's edition of the New York Daily News, also said health officials later found a third baby who had contracted herpes after being circumcised by Fischer in late 2003.

Under Jewish law, a mohel -- someone who performs circumcisions -- draws blood from the circumcision wound. Most mohels do it by hand, but Fischer uses a rare practice where he uses his mouth.

Fischer's lawyer, Mark Kurzmann, told the Daily News that Fischer was cooperating with the investigation, although it's unclear whether Fischer submitted to the city's request for a blood test.

"My client is known internationally as a caring, skilled, and conscientious mohel," Kurzmann said.

I understand the Jewish ritual of circumsision. But the idea of a grown man putting his mouth on the genitals of a child is probably more than the secular world wants to see.

Stoplight turns red when school's lunchroom gets too loud

Associated Press

Feb. 10, 2005 08:22 AM

ATHOL, Idaho - Green light. Red Light. Lights out.

In an effort to quiet down the lunchroom chatter at Athol Elementary, a stoplight has been mounted that monitors decibel levels and signals teachers to turn the lights out when kids get too noisy.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
