The Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Mark Lanegan, Califone, More Set for Sparklehorse Tribute Album

Last Box of Sparklers is a forthcoming Sparklehorse and Mark Linkous tribute album. It's a benefit put together by Box of Stars, a non-profit focused on increasing awareness about mental health, and according to the Future Heart, it's currently looking for funding.

The compilation's contributors include the Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Mark Lanegan, Califone, the Joy Formidable, Phantogram, Grandaddy's Jason Lytle, Portugal. the Man, and others. (Dinosaur Jr. are mentioned in the trailer, but not the Indiegogo site.) That's Mercury Rev's take on "Sea of Teeth" above.

The entire compilation will be mastered by Dave Fridmann (the Flaming Lips, MGMT, Tame Impala). Box of Stars are partnering with Minding Your Mind, an organization that visits schools to educate young adults about mental health. Watch a trailer for the compilation below featuring Wayne Coyne, plus more songs from Lanegan, Ian Nichols, and TivaTiva.

Box of Stars are looking to raise $50,000 through their Indiegogo campaign. At the time of publication, they've raised just under $10,500. They're offering downloads, CDs, and vinyl of the album, plus signed goods from the participating artists, paintings, and more.

Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
