Selling Poverty

Recommended Posts

She came from east Tennessee
Grew up poor in the hills
She learned how to survive
Made a fortune in Nashville

She wrote a song called "9 to 5"
Told some jokes about boobs.
Her name is Dolly Parton
She got rich off you

Selling Poverty
One way to get rich
Con artists everywhere
Making their pitch

Selling Poverty
One way to survive
Sharks in these waters
Will eat you alive

She came from the far north
Grew up poor in the woods
She went hungry at school
Killed rabbits for food

She met a man named Mutt
He milked her talent
Her name is Shania Twain
She stole my wallet

Selling Poverty
One way to get rich
Con artists everywhere
Making their pitch

Selling Poverty
One way to survive
Sharks in these water
Will eat you alive

They stand on street corners
Hawking a homeless paper
They don't wanna work
They're happy campers

Preachers sell religion
Keep passing the plate
They want your money
Only gullibles donate

Chorus

Jim Colyer ascap

That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
