LIFT, the popular weekly radio show produced and anchored by Jes Camilleri and specialising in funk music will be transmitting a 4-hour special this Saturday 25 September to celebrate the first 45 years of the Tamla Motown record label.

In 1959, Berry Gordy a young songwriter and former auto worker with the Ford company in the motor city of Detroit set up the Tamla label. Within ten years it was the biggest ever record company in the history of black music...a veritable hit factory. It was labelled the Sound Of Young America and for two decades was at the forefront of pop music, admired by both black and

white audiences. Tamla's stars included the Temptations, Supremes, Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Isley Bros and Edwin Starr.

For this 4-hour special Jes will be joined by lifelong Motown fan Noel Mallia, and together they will be providing listeners with tons of information and groovy soul music. So tune in to Radio 101 to listen to this

special edition of LIFT between 19:00 and 23:00 or listen live over the Internet from di-ve's Radio Jukebox page.

But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
