Microsoft just ruined the whole fuckin day for me and I was pretty happy I finally got a new laptop.

My new machine came with SP2 installed.

Trust me. SP2 is USELESS. It only adds stupid warnings about security and frightens those who know nothing. If this was my first PC then I would shit myself.

It's the first time I check it out and I must say that this is the worst fuckin windows version ever. Don't fool yourself. Those nasty services will take a while to tweak. It's nothing like SP1. They just added a billion more useless services amd made it really hard top remove.

"Are you sure you want to remove the firewall? Yes", "Are you really sure? The machine will be volnurable. Yes". "You can set it back by going to.... Yes". "Choose this" "Choose that!" AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

FUCK YOU BILL GATES AND ALL YOUR FUCKING CODING TEAM!!! FUCKERS!!!!

I finally put SP2 on my old 1.3GHz 256MB machine with a full XP reinstall. Yeah, that new security center is beefy and prominent now... And I turned off the firewall as well, and then you have to turn off XP even "checking" for it, otherwise you get warnings. I basically found the button that says I want to disable the firewall and I don't want you to tell me that it's off either. Ever.

And now we've been happy ever since.

But - now I read your post and find that there are extra services enabled? Like what? I'll admit I only went through the services to make sure that the messenger was disabled, but didn't check for anything else...

Otherwise though, everything seems good and even Bittorrent seems to be even faster. Without all of the false hype that SP2 limits your connections.

it seems that they partnered with IBM to add extra features for laptops but I don't know if they exist in regular PCs. The list with all the services is unbelievably long. I'll go through them tomorrow and search the net for possible "faster" solutions like the pre-made registry package Blackviper offers.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
