Microsoft to Release Biggest Ever Windows Upgrade to Make Users Safer From Cyberattacks

REDMOND, Wash. (AP) -- Almost since the day Microsoft Corp. released its Windows XP computer operating system nearly three years ago, it has been a favorite target of hackers and critics eager to stress its numerous security shortcomings.

Now, more than two years after promising to do something about it, Microsoft is about to release the biggest update ever for Windows. The free upgrade is designed to make users safer from cyberattacks by sealing entries to viruses, better protecting personal data and fending off spyware.

Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates said the upgrade, dubbed Service Pack 2, revises less than 5 percent of the millions of lines of code that make up Windows XP -- but adds more value than any update the company has ever done.

Microsoft senior product manager Matt Pilla said virtually all Windows XP users will be able to download Service Pack 2, regardless of whether they have a legal or pirated copy of the operating system.

I was under the distinct impression that SP2 was at first going to play nice with "pirated" versions of XP, but then Billybob and crew took that back and said "no".

I wonder if this article is accurate.

Actually, just yesterday, there was an article about another delay of the SP. Who knows what is accurate nowadays. I just know that as soon as they release it, I'll be downloading it post-haste.

Ive already got adware, spyware and someother things on my computer, cant get them off without re-formatting........and i aint got the time to do that, so i have to put up with random pop-ups, stuff highlighting words on pages, Explorer randomly openning and then closing........... :reallymad:
