Breaking: Channel 4 News (aka Ron Burgundy and co.) is coming back to the news desk—and this time, it's officially official.

After a grueling, months-long "will they?" or "won't they?" wait, we have total confirmation from Paramount Pictures (via ComingSoon) that the long-awaited sequel "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" will open in theaters exactly one year from today on December 20, 2013.

So now that we've gotten the alarming, groundbreaking, kind-of-a-big-deal bit of news off of our chests, let's talk about the returning key players. We already know that Will Ferrell's Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy is returning to his anchor chair, and that he'll be joined by the original Action4News team comprised of Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), Champ Kind (David Koechner) and Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd). The biggest casting surprise, however, is that of fellow SNL alum Kristen Wiig, who was recently rumored to have signed on as Carrel's love interest.

In the early stages of the script's development, director Adam McKay described the plot to Empire as follows: "It's right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in '78 or '79. All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you're talking about diversity and the Action News team, that's always fun to deal with." Uh-oh. Do we sense another epic gang fight coming on here?

If you still don't believe us—even after Burgundy's own announcement on Conan—Judd Apatow's recent tweet should do the trick: "One year from tomorrow Anchorman 2 will be in theaters!! It is kind of a big deal."

Believe us now? Okay, good. In the meantime, "Get ready to ride the Palamino stallion"—and by that, we mean you should watch the teaser trailer, below.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
