'Wiz Khalifa Day' Now Official In Pittsburgh, O.N.I.F.C. Debuts At #2

While numerologists swim in theories surrounding the significance of 12-12-12, the city of Pittsburgh has no doubt what Wednesday (December 12) means. It’s "Wiz Khalifa Day." Wiz, in town for his 2050 Tour at the Consol Energy Center, accepted the Steel City’s proclamation honoring him as an ambassador this morning, in city council chambers.

It was a welcome acknowledgement for the heavily tattooed rapper, born Cameron Jibril Thomaz, who’d put his hometown on the map back in 2010 with his multi-platinum breakout single, “Black and Yellow,” which coincided nicely with the Steelers’ run to Super Bowl XLV.

"It means a lot to me, being a kid from Pittsburgh and riding the buses and going to school out here and just loving Pittsburgh so much," Wiz said during the press conference. "Even when I moved here when I was younger, I told people I was from Pittsburgh, and that was it. So, to come so far, and represent, and have everybody be proud of me -- I don't even feel like I'm doing that great. I can do better and better."

Additionally, the Taylor Gang boss got word today that his sophomore opus, O.N.I.F.C., debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart with 141,000 copies sold. It’s a bit of déjà vu for the “Work Hard, Play Hard” MC as his first solo album, Rolling Papers, also landed at #2 back in 2011 with 197.000 units sold.
