ROCK:

U2

While Bono has been out campaigning for world peace, the others have been locked inside a Dublin studio working on the follow-up to 2000's smash success "All That You Can't Leave Behind." It will likely drop in late February and is described as an angry, guitar-based album.

Velvet Revolver

This brand new band features Guns N' Roses trio - guitarist Slash, bassist Duff McKagan, and drummer Matt Sorum along with Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland. The album, which has the working title "Uppers and Downers", will be out in March.

The Hives

Much secrecy surrounds what is perhaps one of the most sought after albums of 2004. They have spent most of the autumn with producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt writing and recording the album that should drop before summer.

REM

After releasing their best of compilation "In Time" REM is working on their new studio album. Michael Stipe recently described the new material as "crystalline and real."

The Vines

The Australian kings of the new rock revolution will release "Winning Days" on March 8, preceded by the highly charged first single "Ride" on February 23.

Probot

Dave Grohl has written all the music for his heavy metal project. He has attracted his favourite metal singers such as Lemmy from Motorhead to help out on the vocals. All you metal freaks are sure in for a big treat.

Courtney Love

After having a terrible year facing arrests and legal battles Courtney is said to release her debut solo album. "America's Sweetheart," early 2004.

POP:

Bjork

The Icelandic superstar enjoyed a year of touring, and the follow-up to 2001's very experimental "Vespertine" is set for a mid 2004 release.

Beyoncé Knowles

Beyoncé recorded 45 songs for "Dangerously In Love," which came out in 2003, and she hopes to release a sequel of sorts to her debut solo album in March. As for Destiny's Child, the singer says her group plans to reunite in the studio early next year.

Janet Jackson

Things are not looking good for the Jackson family. Something which Janet intends to change. The pop diva will release her new album, the follow-up to 2001's "All For You" before spring and plans a world tour.

Gwen Stefani

As No Doubt recently issued their singles compilation, Gwen is taking some time off to collaborate with artists such as the Neptunes, Mary J Blige, Missy Elliott and Outkast on her first ever solo album.

HIP HOP:

D12

The Detroit rap ensemble will release their second album "Devil's Night II: Halloween" in February 2004. The Dirty Dozen's most visible member, Eminem, has handled some production duties on the record, along with fellow D12'er Kon Artis. The group has also enlisted the golden touch of producer Kanye West (DMX, Jay-Z).

Q-Tip

News has been leaking out about the possible reunion of A Tribe Called Quest as Q-Tip, Phife Dawg and Ali Shaheed Muhammad came together in August to record. But overshadowed in that chatter is the music Q-Tip has been working on for his own solo album, "Open," which he recently completed for a March 2004 release.

N.E.R.D.

Album number 2 from N.E.R.D. is scheduled to hit stores on March 8. "It's all over the place but with a little more direction," Chad Hugo said recently about 'Fly or Die'. "Even in the songwriting, Pharrell wrote songs with more issues involved, more storytelling. Songs that you can really listen to and take apart." Expect everyone important in the music business to be on it!

Nas

Nas is back in the studio recording a new disc. According to a source close to the poetic MC, he'll be dropping his next solo LP in April. On January 27, however, Nas' Ill Will Records will drop the Bravehearts' debut, "Bravehearted." The LP features production by L.E.S. and the Midi Mafia, as well as guest spots from Nas and Lil Jon.

Ja Rule

Ja Rule is done dissing 50 Cent, it's time for the rapper from Hollis to holla back at the mainstream with his rapping. Ja and Irv gotti are currently in the studio banging out a new LP, titled "Blood In My Eye," to drop in early 2004.

Mobb Deep

The infamous Mobb Deep are almost done cooking up their latest serving of macabre street tales and battle rhymes. Their next LP, "Amerika's Nightmare," is now due early next year. "The album is definitely coming in February," Havoc, half of the hip-hop mainstays, recently said. "When it comes out, there will be no disappointments."

ELECTRONICA:

Zero 7

The British electronic duo released their celebrated debut "Simple Things" in 2001 and is now releasing "When it falls" in 2004. It features guest vocalists Mozez, Sia Furler, and Sophie Barker.

Fatboy Slim

The master of crazy beats and cool videos is making a return. Funk, soul and house will all be mashed into the electronic mix that makes up the new album with the working title "Fatboy 4." Blur's Damon Albarn, funk legend Bootsy Collins and Lateef from Blackalicious have contributed vocals.

The Streets

Mike Skinner was the man on everyone's lips with his clever fusion of electronica, rap and britpop on the debut "Original Pirate Material." He toured the festivals this summer and will finally release his second album.

Air

Frenchmen Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel, collectively known as Air, have released some of the most evocative and atmospheric electronic music in the past decade, and at the end of January they'll be back with the follow up to their 2001 album, "10,000 Hz Legend".

Foetus

The Industrial pioneer has been dominating the genre since the mid 80's and set to release his new album early 2004.

SINGER/SONGWRITERS:

Morrissey

After being without a record label since 1997's "Maladjusted Moz," Morrissey has been drifting around playing sold out shows and playing new songs for fans to bootleg. But now he has returned to the studio and will release a new album in May. The first single is rumoured to be "First Of The Gang To Die."

John Frusciante

The guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers who has had a vital influence on the band's most recent albums is releasing his new solo album "Shadows Collide With People" on February 25. Frusciante has previously released three solo albums including 2001's "To Record Only Water For Ten Days".

John Squire

The former Stone Roses guitarist will release "Marshall's House" on February 9, preceded by the single, "Room In Brooklyn."

PJ Harvey

Not much has been heard of Polly since 2000's "Stories From the City, Stories from the Sea." In 2003 she worked with Josh Homme's sideproject Dessert Sessions as she sang on "Crawl Home." But 2004 is reportedly the year when she will make her return.

Norah Jones

Five time Grammy Winner Norah Jones was an unexpected smash in 2002 with the debut "Come Away With Me." It made her the contemporary superstar jazz had been waiting for. In 2003 she collaborated with Outkast and now she is working on her second album on which she has collaborated with Dolly Parton.

Assaulting myself regularly on KNAC.com, they have been playing the first single off of the Probot album, "Shake Your Blood." This is the song that features Lemmy and it rocks hard. If you're a Motorhead fan, you'll like it.

As far as Ms. Jackson (cuz I'm nasty) goes, the only thing I know that got released from her was her right bosom.

Damn, if that were the case, I would spam for this site on the white house lawn. I miss that show so bad. I see that there are many people in Cali here. For those in LA, what suburb are you in? You can PM me if you'd prefer. Or just contact me outside of the Mtv request as a fellow Cali bud. :)

Another regular Probot song currently playing on KNAC.com is "Sweet Dreams" which features King Diamond. Not a bad track.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
