i'm absolutely humiliated when i think of how living in the states, i'd never heard of bill hicks. now he's gone and like hunter s thompson, we really need him now.

Bill about the JFK cover-up: 'people come up to me and go "bill, quit talking about kennedy, man, let it go, it's a long time ago...time to move on." i'm like "OK, then don't bring up Jesus to me...y'know, as long as we're talking about shelf-life here."

"Bill, y'know Jesus died for you."

'Yeah, it was a long time ago...get over it.'

"I can speak for every guy in this room here tonight. Guys, if you could blow yourselves, ladies, you'd be in this room alone right now. Watching an empty stage."

Bill Hicks - the Lenny Bruce of our times:

http://www.billhicks.com/

I think you could catch him On Demand now on HBO. You know they say Denis Leary ripped off Hick's routine. He was incredibly talented and one funny motherf*cker. :)

That's why Leary's biggest project was called "No Cure for Cancer". Had Hicks not died of cancer Leary would have had no niche.

    • Wait, Burning Man is going online-only? What does that even look like?
You could have been forgiven for missing the announcement that actual physical Burning Man has been canceled for this year, if not next. Firstly, the nonprofit Burning Man organization, known affectionately to insiders as the Borg, posted it after 5 p.m. PT Friday. That, even in the COVID-19 era, is the traditional time to push out news when you don't want much media attention.
But secondly, you may have missed its cancellation because the Borg is being careful not to use the C-word. The announcement was neutrally titled "The Burning Man Multiverse in 2020." Even as it offers refunds to early ticket buyers, considers layoffs and other belt-tightening measures, and can't even commit to a physical event in 2021, the Borg is making lemonade by focusing on an online-only version of Black Rock City this coming August.    Read more...
